Oponeo - A word of warning.

Featured Replies

I ordered some alloy wheels from this lot on the 14/10, with the delivery promised in 4-5 working days & being ordered before noon on that day I was expecting a knock on the door from the courier on either the Friday or Monday morning.

So when Monday came & went, I thought I'd give them an extra 24 hrs just in case the order had missed the days order deadline, so on the Tuesday, I sent them an email asking if there was a problem with the order... No answer, so I sent another, again no answer.

This got me a tad worried in case they were a cowboy company, anyway on the Wednesday I rang them and asked about the order and they said they would check with the warehouse and return my call the next day or send me an email, needless to say no returned call & no email. Now getting worried as I couldn't afford to lose £440!

So I resorted to bombarding them with emails in the end I did get a response, but only to say they would look into it and that they'd been overwhelmed by demand for both wheels & tyres.

It then went very quiet, until two days ago when I got an email saying that they'd actually dispatched the wheels, with a tracking link, only to find that they were still in Germany, anyway I have now tracked them down to Crawley and out for delivery today, however due to the severe weather we've had over the last few hours, I doubt I'll get them today, so I'll give them a day or two slack for that.

So just be warned that when they say delivered in 4-5 working days, take that with a very unhealthy dose of salt, because so far it's taken 14 days & not the 4-5 days that they state & don't trust them if you want the wheels & tyres quickly.

The result of this shoddy service is that they lost a £554 order for a set of 4 225/45 R17 94H Continental WinterContact TS 850's, the order went instead to mytyres who were a mere 50p more and have dealt with before.

You used an unknown company to save 50p?

That might be after Quidco cash back which Oponeo don't do (as far as I am aware). Oponeo don't normally have a bad reputation and they're not dissimilar to mytyres and pneus.

That's a shame. I've had three orders from them so far, all delivered in the quoted time, though delivery is down to a third party (DPD seem to have the job around here).

I used them because I couldn't get the wheels I wanted at the price I wanted to pay for them. And as they (Oponeo) fudged this order I didn't feel that I could trust them again, that's despite the fact that I read good reviews on a couple of the review sites.

I've dealt with mytyres before and they were OK last time, they said 8-10 days and they were pretty much spot on, so I thought I'd give them another opportunity, the thing with them is you have to watch them like a hawk because their prices fluctuate so much, one day they can be £15-20 more per tyre than Oponeo or others, yet other times they are cheaper.

It's a shame that Camskill couldn't do me a deal on them, as they can't get hold of the TS 850's, otherwise I would have most certainly gone with them after hearing nothing but positive comments about them.

I also realised too late that mytyres were on Quidco, so I lost out there to the tune of £16!  :wall:

The farce continues...

I've got a week off and I was quite happy when the tracking system said my wheels were actually on their way today & then my heart sank when I realised that it was with the biggest bunch of cowboys in the courier market... DPD (Geopost) at Crawley.

And sure enough my worst fears have yet again come to fruition. I've been in all day bar a 1hr 10m period when I had to go out & I was back quicker than I anticipated by just after 1500, but one of my parents would be waiting for the consignment and sure enough nothing had arrived by 1630, so I accessed their tracking system and there it was saying that there was no one to accept the consignment.

Now I know that the DPD bunch at Crawley are the biggest bunch of fecking liars going as I've had this no less than 5 times previously with them and I've had 1 run in with one of their delivery drivers who nearly hit me when driving on the wrong side of the road on a bend using his mobile phone!  :@

That resulted in a formal complaint to DPD HQ at the time.

Anyway I have now wasted a days leave for absolutely SFA, because an incompetent imbecile from DPD can't get his act together and check that the postcode & use the telephone to check the details of the address and as it turns out he stopped at a house 50m away & didn't check the address for the house name and then because he couldn't be bothered to check again come the extra 50m further up the same road, put on the system that there was no one in when in fact I was sitting in the lounge waiting, this has now resulted in another formal complaint to DPD HQ.

Whatever you do....

DO NOT USE DPD COURIERS THEY WILL SCREW YOUR LIFE UP & GIVE YOU THE RUN AROUND AND THEIR DRIVERS ARE A BUNCH OF LIARS!

Sorry to hear about your problems. I ordered a set of winter tyres on a Saturday and DPD tried to deliver them the following Wednesday and everything went very smoothly.

As regards couriers, they are all the same and equally crap. This based on the best part of 15 years experience at work. I've gone through all the major players several times and there isn't any difference between them.

DPD failed to deliver a very important parcel to my business address a few weeks back.

They said it was because they couldn't find the shop.

Our shop is on one of Hulls busiest main roads with a huge green sign proudly displaying my company name in massive custard yellow print.

To rub salt in the wounds a DPD driver came in the next day to grab something to eat. So much for not finding us.

I've just bought a pair of TS 850's for our other Fabia. Ordered from Camskill on Friday evening, delivered this afternoon. Just a shame they don't have any in stock for my Furby.

Mytyres seam a little more expense, but have a larger selection of winter tyres. I've used them before and like you say, they came within a week or so.

Do you ever get the feeling of impending doom?

Just check on the mytyres website about my order with them, it's been dispatched and collected by the courier company. Guess who?

You're right about price volatility on the pneus website. As I didn't immediately need some tyres I thought I'd wait until they dropped below a psychologically round price point despite them being at least 10% more anywhere else.

They then dropped by almost 10% overnight so I placed the order.

Pneus sent me an email asking for a utility bill as a security measure so I reminded them that my previous order using the same card details was only the previous month and they'd also delivered to the same fitter for me on another occasion.

At least I got a courteous apology.

Couriers are great here, but then they're not all the same. Just down to the individual really...

I had mixed service from Openeo and DPD as well, the latter still failing to refund £12 for a botched Saturday dellvery after 3 weeks.

Ordered four Conti 850's and alloy wheels over a weekend.  The tyre order went through fine but the wheel order returned an error from the website.  Tried a further seven times with the same outcome.  Openeo Email support was quick to sort out the problem Monday morning leaving me with 8 sets of the wheels to pay for :giggle: Again this was sorted out quickly to leave me with the order I wanted to pay for which was completed on the Tuesday.

The issues with the alloy wheel left me with no live tracking for that order but the tyre order had links to two orders so assumed one was the wheels.

On Friday, of the same week, DPD attempted to deliver the wheels and tyres.  Having watched the live tracking I scheduled a Saturday delivery almost immediatly after the calling card information came up on the live tracking.

When I got home I found the wheels had been left in a safe, which I was happy with, but neither of the links above showed the consignment as being delivered.

Stayed in Saturday morning awaiting the rescheduled delivery but slightly concerned the live tracking information was not being updated, one parcel was listed as being in Birmingham and the second in Newbury.  Anyway nothing arrived so that was a wasted Saturday :wall:

Fortunately on the Monday the big storm hit which meant I could not get to work and was at home to receive the second delivery attempt.  Only two tyres arrived, when I enquired about the other two tyres the driver said that was all he had on the van.

When Openeo had shipped the tyres they split them into two consignments, the delivery driver had failed to realise this and only associated one with the calling card.  I realised this when I looked at the two consignment numbers, one was marked as delivered and the second was still in Birmingham.

Without the calling card I was unable to reschedule the delivery and had to resort to the 'Make It Right' email address, which got it wrong and failed to reschedule the remaining tyres for Tuesday.  Tuesday afternoon tried again and the consignment was rescheduled for Wednesday when it was finally delivered.

When I checked the Dezent alloys wheels everything looked fine except one of the wheel centres was missing.  Due to a silly bit of design the box has two hand holds which are large enough for a loose wheel centre to fall out.  Just to finish it all off, took the wheels to the fitter and they found some damage to one of the rims where it had been dropped in the box. But with the state of the roads the wheels will be square in a couple of year anyway so left it.

I was hoping to get some Skoda wheel centres off ebay, so the missing centre didn't bother me, but the 60mm items ordered don't fit the alloy properly. So I have emailled Dezent about where a replacement can be obtained from but after 2 days have not had a reply.

So currently not sure whether the low prices are worth the pain and misery surrounding the rest of the experience, although dodging DPD may be harder.

I got my winter tyres from Oponeo, delivered all the way to Isle of Skye in a few days with no hassle.

I'd happily buy from them again.

Likewise  ( but not delivered to Skye  :whew:  )

Very courteous and efficient, with excellent communication throughout.

Ive recently ordered some tyres from oponeo and they were great. Good prices, quick delivery and good communication.

  • 4 weeks later...

DPD seem to be crap, in a lot of locations, I was waiting for a parcel to arrive, when it didn't , checked on line only to see, that it was registered as delivered, contacted the DPD base, and was told that delivery had been made.  When I complained, it turned out that driver ahd delivered to the correct house number, but on a different road, 2 streets away,  I would not trust them with anything of value.

The driver had to be contacted by his base, and go back to collect package from first house, and then someone else delivered it to me, he couldn't even manage to do that himself.
