Sound generator rattle

Featured Replies

Hi,

Does anyone else car make an awful speaker rattle under hard acceleration at the top of the rev range?

The car is a diesel, dsg vrs and in sport mode it really ruins the car, under light acceleration its quite a nice sound but heavy acceleration its like the speakers cant handle it.

  • Hi all, pleased to announce that problem solved, no more buzzing. Rainworth Skoda found that it was the ambient temperature sensor relay that was reverberating when the actuator was active. They found

  • The best solution is to get rid of the bloody awful thing!

  • It's the sound generator under windshield by the firewall. It vibrates the heck out of you chassis to sound "sporty". I agree it's a crap idea!

Haven't you posted this before?

The sound generator doesn't use the speakers.

No idea what you're hearing, mine certainly just sounds a bit throaty.

Have one in a Leon FR and they sound crap imho. Utterly pointless addition to a great set of cars

Rob we've been through this with you before, it doesn't use the speakers!!

Mine doesnt rattle though, can hardly hear it.

It definitely sounds like a speaker rattle under hard acceleration, doesn't do it in eco, does it slightly in normal and bad in sport so presuming its the sound generator, just wondering if others does the same, and have any ideas what it is

My apologise, but its varies with what setting the car is in (when the sound thing gets louder) and does it when car changes gear (i.e when engine noise tone is highest).

What is it?

Maybe the sound generator is loose on it's mounting?

Probably best to pop into the dealer and get them to have a look and listen

Unplug it, problem solved

Or unplug it ;)

Fed up of going back to the dealer haha, had a read in to it, may look at unplugging although waiting for service manager to get back to me with possibly them taking it off for me but he's away at the minute.

FYI after reading the mk7 gti forums it would literally appear to simply be a case of unplugging it. I never tried the diesel Vrs as not my cup of tea. I did however have a petrol Vrs that belonged to the dealer principal on a 24 hour test drive prior to ordering my own car. He admitted disconnecting the sound actuator as he didn't Like it, needless to say I was actually impressed with the noise when I picked up my own motor. Each to their own...

I do too many miles to warrant a petrol and for not much more gain in power really (my opinion of course), yes I don't mind the growl it makes with it, it's just the horrible rattle/vibrations as though a speaker or something somewhere can't handle the high pitch from the engine when it changes gear.

If I get time I'll unplug and try it see if it is the generator

i dont mind it in normal but it can be a bit much in sport.  it could do with a normal+ option where it doesmt hang onto the gears as long and is midrange on the virator doodar

rob, im wondering if its possible youve got a bit of trim or dashboard thats rattling when the soundaktor is running at full chat?

God knows. There's no rattling when I go over bumps or anything just purely the sound/speaker interference type sound. I'm sure someone from this forum will tell me it's the 19" wheels haha. Like they told me it would affect everything else on car which is totally false :).

I have the same problem on my petrol Vrs, it's in at the dealers at the moment being sorted. They are talking to Skoda Technical about the fault and were asked to send a video of the actuator to Skoda to decide what to do. Hopefully back tomorrow but can keep you posted.

That would be great if you could.

Ill try get a GoPro video tomorrow and if quality is good enough to capture the sound.

Still waiting for car to be sorted, Skoda Technical are apparently working on a solution at the moment and dealer waiting for their reply

Someone's already disconnected the thing here in Romania. Took 15 minutes at the dealership. Very similar thing to the GTI one.

My petrol vrs is doing the same under hard acceleration in sport and normal mode. It's like a plastic rattle, certainly not the sound the generator is meant to make but as if it's rattling something else.

Going into dealers this weekend to get looked at.

I take it the generator has an access panel and they don't have to strip the dashboard? cause that'll just cause more rattles no doubt!

Its not inside the car, its attached the the bulkhead under the wiper scuttle.

Here's what it looks like on the golf (think its a golf anyway), its the circular thing with the cable attached.

Going to look for that on my Leon. If there it gets unplugged!!!

It looks as if we have a possible common fault with this actuator gizmo. Will be interesting to see if there are more people with the fault and what solution Skoda come up with?

The best solution is to get rid of the bloody awful thing! :)

Just been checking on the VW forums and there is the same rattling on hard accelleration problem with the actuator on some Golf GTIs
