Winter wheels and tyres on today

Featured Replies

He has to pay your commission some how! :giggle:

Got mine today just before the price rise. The blank centre caps were a tiny bit loose fitting for my Audi A4 wheels, but a couple of rounds PVC tape around the clips and now they're perfect!. I think the 'stickers' are good quality they should last ok.

  • The point of winter tyres is not to protect summer tyres. It is to protect your car (and it's occupants) by being safer in winter, along with enabling you to continue to drive when there is snow aroun

I asked them why they had put the price up

This was the reply:

Dear *********

Hi, this is because we are out of stock at the moment and will be getting some more in a week or so, then they will go back down to the normal price, this saves canceling the listing. Thanks

Kind regards,

What utter rowlkks!!

Why does it still say, "More than 10 available" ?

Well i do see this on projector screens so before you have a pop at least wait and see if it true.

If not then its rollicks!

I never believe the stock levels on eBay listings anyway!

So his angle is put the price up stops people ordering? Risky stategy - better just leaving it alone and increasing the delivery leadtime....

Perhaps its like Tescos wine, double price for two weeks and falsely on offer at half price for the other 50 weeks of the year!

Yep, you might well be right!

Just wait till the week is up before you murder the guy..

It seems 60mm Audi badges are quite common, the issue I have is that on the Trapez Audi alloy (17") the outer face of the cap is 70mm.

70mm caps (with the right inner diameter for the clips/ring) are rare.

I'll take some pictures tonight and post them up.

I've ordered another blank set, that have a metal retaining ring on the inside this time, so will see how it goes....

Do share! You have the 17" Audi Trapez alloys right?

This means you need a 70mm cap...

I didn't know that was the name for the Audi design, but yes that's right. I bought my set last year and ran them last season with the std Audi caps.

70mm centres. I'm not sure, reading back over questions I made, whether the seller understood what I meant by the metal retaining ring though. In hindsight I should have asked for some photos.

These are mine, including measurements...

Worst case scenario will be to remove the Audi logo's by pushing out the 4x metal prongs holding them on from the back. The caps are slightly domed though which may cause issues when applying Skoda labels...

Yep, same as mine.

I've just removed the Audi emblem from one of my caps tonight actually. Straight forward and they come off cleanly, and could be clipped back in again later without any issue.

But it's as you fear, the centres are a bit too domed to take stickers I think. The test I've just done I've weighted down, to see if it'll take. If not I might apply a bead of superglue around the outside edge, to see if that does the trick.

Got a picture of the cap from the side to show the degree of doming?

My job for tomorrow, might even put up a picture once done.

Yep, same as mine.

This is why I was thinking of these eBay caps (70mm outer, 65mm inner) and these 70mm Skoda stickers...

Let us know how your stickers on the Audi caps goes!

Stickers are sorted for me, I got some correctly sized PastyBoy specials - went for the retro Skoda design :)

Nice! And they took OK to the domed caps without extra help / glue?

Looks good from the top:

But side-on it's not quite as good:

These are my set by the way, photo from last year when I bought them. Now freshly refurbed :)

Looking good, the side view doesn't matter anyway. The design of the Trapez alloy means that the centre cap is well recessed anyway so the side profile of the caps is well hidden from view!

Got a picture of the cap from the side to show the degree of doming?

Here you go...

My concern is the badge coming off - if it's not stuck down properly, dirt and grime will only get in there.

Yep, your side shot shows the doming really well! Even more noticeable than I thought it was....

I think the caps on mine are even more curved than that, so flat stickers may be an issue.

Just put my winters (steels) on today, new baby on the way so can't afford nice alloys like you VRS boys...

Put my winter Alloys on today, Audi 10 spokes just filled in the middle audi rings and then sprayed the caps. Wheels were an eBay bargain £51 for all 4 and tyres were bought months ago at £59 a tyre for Khumo KW27 94 XL V rated ! So all in a full set of winters for around £290 !
