You changed the wheels AND re-sprayed the car! :giggle:

  • I always find it amusing when any thread on winter tyres attracts the inevitable reply of   "I've never used winter tyres in my life and have absolutely not one iota of experience with them whatsoev

  • Those who don't understand Winter Tyres think they are ONLY for snow

  • The point of winter tyres is not to protect summer tyres. It is to protect your car (and it's occupants) by being safer in winter, along with enabling you to continue to drive when there is snow aroun

Great minds ;)

Running mine last season with the Audi caps, I was amazed at how many people spotted I had Audi wheels on a Skoda! The general public must be fixated with looking at wheels :D

Overheard comments parking up in carparks, people looking down at them in traffic - very bizarre.

Is that Alan I spot in the first pic? :)

It is Alan...we were doing a spot of detailing on our day off

No! Surely not Chris, I can't believe you'd ever do that :D

Mois? LOL

Read a post on FB today saying that the we're going to have the worst winter in 'modern times' this year, and funnily enough the mother in law mentioned it too, and she lives in the Ukraine so knows a bit about cold weather..guess we'll have to wait and see..

Errrr....  'Forgot' to take them off after last winter.....

So I'm good to go....

due to get cold early next week. Early frosts some snow on Northern hills, then back to average again and normal by mid week.

still no sign of this Siberian winter!

The fact that they are predicting a cold winter...possibly means it wont be!

They have done this before.......Many times.

Newspaper sensationalism I suspect.....unless they have hacked into a Meteorologists' phone. ;)  :nerd:

The Nokian WR D3, which we have, was rated top by Auto Express this week, using a FL Octavia II for testing.  Guess whose test track they used?

I fitted a set to swmbo's Leon last weekend and they seem pretty good and very quiet. I bought them a few weeks before the Auto Express test came out and really more on the ADAC test results and price for them from oponeo. Hopefully have a chance to test them in the snow at some point, but in the cold and damp so far so good.

They tested an unusually large size for a winter tyre (225/45R17).  Most people would get the narrowest and tallest-profile option permitted by the manufacturer (195/65R15 for the Octavia; narrower tyres generally work better in snow and are cheaper).

I've been looking at narrower tyres for that reason, but there seems to be some debate about whether narrower is always better now:

Narrower is better - Look at the rally cars in the snow.

It will be gridlock as usual when it snows

It snows in winter and we are gridlocked as  99% of motorists have summer tyres fitted that are useless in snow. Even the 4x4s slide around as they are fitted the the  wrong tyres.

The 1.6mm legal limit in winter doesn't help - In some European countries its 4mm...

A while ago I chatted to a local RAC man. He responds to 4x4 owner calls such as saying my Q7 is broken as its useless in snow - Cr@p tyres mate.

Might see if I can the difference between the 205 tyres on my octy compared to the 195 on the Leon then.

I'd guess the Octy is heavier than the Leon so neutral if they are on exactly the same rubbers.

The octy is also 4x4 so traction won't be comparable.

I had Vredestein quatrac lite 4-season tyres fitted on Wed. I don't drive near the limits of the car; only tend to need acceleration when turning right at some busy junctions on the way to work. So far they seem a bit quieter than the mix of bridgestone + continental tyres on before, but after < 20 miles I've managed to spin the front wheels a few times coming out of junctions. So maybe they have less traction, or maybe they're still bedding in / losing some coating.

I would say still bedding in.

Some tyre manufacturers quote 300 miles before they're properly bedded in, although 100 miles is more like it.

My wife is complaining that her car (Citroen DS3) feels a little bouncy since I fitted the Winter wheels and tyres (Bridgestone Blizzak)

I have gone for 16" steels from 17" Alloys and Bridgestone Potenzas). with a pressure of 2.4 bar all round....recommended by the manufacturer

I am toying with the idea of reducing the pressure a little

Any thoughts on this?

Also switched to winter mode. 225/45/17 on Team Dynamics Jade rims (or some replica tehereof, dunno :p)
