Black code remap, experience?

Featured Replies

Just wondering if anyone has had any experience of Black code remaps? I know about APR, rtech, shark etc, but a local garage (tuning specialists not just a privateer dabling in the remaps for some extra cash) has started doing Black Code maps and wondered who out there had used em!

If they have 'just started' then don't bother. It will no doubt cause problems to your car and for the extra few quid your best off paying the fuel and travelling to a well known company.

The remaps have been around a number of years http://black-code.co.uk/, the garage has just started and I would trust them, it's more finding out about these maps and who has used them before.

25% increase in mpg lol

We interested to hear what people say about these seen as they are so close to where I live... Might opt for it given good reviews.

My reading of their website is that it is a franchise operation of recent provenance making extravagant claims. But there again I can be a bit cynical.

Had BlackCode remap on my Golf CR 2.0tdi a few years ago. Initially I had judder around 1800RPM, so they altered some parameters which largely resolved the issue, but not completely. Wizz forward 3 years I had to have a new gearbox (3 teeth had randomly sheared on input shaft), two new flywheels and clutch (OEM), two driveshafts. After the gearbox had been replaced a new DMF and clutch was fitted at the same time. At around 1600-1800RPM loads of judder like driving over a cattle grid. VAG specialist swapped DMF and clutch again, just to rule out faulty components; fault still there.  Each driveshaft was then replaced, but judder still there. Fortunately, my VAG specialist has access to a rolling road and was able to disassemble and examine the map. It was found that the torque curve was much too agressive for the transmission, with torque almost doing a vertical climb from around 1700rpm, fuel line pressure was  running much too high as was turbo boost pressure. The map was modified, problem solved. I contacted Black Code and they said it was nothing to do with what they had done and they said something else must be wrong with my car. Guess Black Code don't really know what they are doing after all, despite all that lovely sales platter and website. I should have realised something was amiss when I noticed that they didn't have a rolling road at their Stafford HQ. Without a rolling road, correct equipment and knowledge a power map is bound to fail and cost dearly.
