made me think you'd gone to all the trouble of turning silver wheels dark to then spray silver over the top :D

However I guessing to just extreme lighting.

I'll admit I was worried after the first couple of coats but it would seem that as the layers build up the finish improves massively - which I guess is to be expected.

End result looks really good and, from these pics at least, looks as good as any anthracite or gun metal grey powder coat or refurb.

I guess if your happy with a matt finish and the DIY work and relatively temporary finish this could be the way to go.

Right I'm off to sell some more badge so I have the spare cash to buy a pack of white (or neon if I've got the cahones) dip for my Leon wheels

That pic is an intermediate step and also doesn't do the finish justice, it's overly close and with direct light, they are far darker as can kind of be seen in the later side by side finished shots, although the camera doesn't show it there was a lot of direct light on the wheel in all shots so a lot of reflection. The finish has a lot of shine although it's not gloss.

I am waiting for good light today to take a snap, the overall effect is rather "Dark Knight" and I'm pretty chuffed

I think the white with a pearl top would be awesome. Or something dayglo :)

Will be masking off the tyre side wall to tonight.

Note to all Fonzi is a liar, it is a massive sweaty PITA to peel off the overspray from your tyres. Myth busted.

Just doing a wipe down with spirits and prepping with tape etc.

Round two coming up soon.

Heating cranked up, cans sat in warm water, hair dryer ready to heat rims.

For anyone interested I restocked on beer and 8:30pm I will be taking a break for Mexican food.

Threesome anyone?

Why bother with all the plastic?

If the wife says anything, just say "it's alright love, it just peels off" :D

Let us know the date of the funeral ;)

Fonzi, forgot to tell you that you did not need to mask if you just use carefully some Petroleum Jelly or Grease on the tyres before spraying.

I forgot to tell on purpose for a giggle,

& when i spotted the rubber glove decided you had possibly run out of PJ.

All out of PJ, would Durex rude lube work

And ignoring the smut, the gloves were there to make me feel like I had a clue

Prep prep and prep some more.

Decided to totally cover tyre with newspaper so a bit slow to start on the spraying.

The lip of the alloy on these with this tyre combo for me requires better access for spraying or I would have loved to have done that.

Coat 2

Noticing photography doesn't do this justice

Also I am still on can one of the gunmetal

Last night I gave six coats to my test wheel

So far tonight two coats to three wheels, so twelve coats and still some can left.

Recommendation is eight coats per wheel so for a set of four 32 coats needed.

If I get four more coats from this can, you could realistically do this with two cans, so roughly £20.00

  • Author

Skip ahead to coat four, looking more familiar, just hit can two so £20.00 spray job v doable.

Sorry Bryan, no can do this operation is strictly high stealth. Tomorrow I will peel off any overspray that hit the Le Creuset :D

Although as a spray booth, the kitchen is awesome with food and beer at arms reach.

Beats me, I have tried on many occasions to enlighten her as to the difficulties in finding the correct canbus error free LED 42mm festoon in order to have a better lit rear number plate but she fails to grasp the sheer importance of the subject matter.
