Pretty the handbrake is still on the left, not that it matter, if it was on the right it would only be about 2" closer.

and not foul the storage compartment as much as it does now.

? Mine doesn't foul anything....

I have to say I find the drinks holders pretty annoying. Even a small bottle gets knocked about when changing gear. If only they'd swapped it round.

It does if you have the arm rest extended.

Isn't the handbrake on the new Golf a push button one?

I didn't think the centre console was so thin.

The summary of the episode isn't posted yet. I have an idea that they were discussing the poor/cheap RHD conversions VAG do when bringing cars to the UK/Ireland.

Mind my asking what was discussed? Did the companies give a response to the show as to why they're being cheap?

My MKII FL had a proper RHD conversion and I see the MKIII is gone down the road of the rest of VAG - switching the steering wheel only. The Golf VII has a push button hand brake but it's still on the left side as per LHD market. The only company in the group that still does a proper conversion is Audi. Even that may change.

Frustrating when you're paying top dollar for a car. My B5 Passat from 2003 has a proper RHD conversion..! Shame that VAG went down this road..At least Ford are still doing it properly.

You sure? On mine they moved all the controls and instruments to the right......

Ahh hey. I'm not trying to be smart. I'm referring to the Wheel, Dash Clushter and mouldings associated with the wheel. I'm a big fan of Skoda. Love the new VRS and want one. Just wish VAG would go back to their roots and give the RHD market the full conversions they used to provide..!

Sorry my bad, just when you said "steering wheel only" I wrongly assumed you meant "steering wheel only".......... ;)

They also went to great lengths to completely redesign the drivers door so it fitted on the other side of the car, and the passenger door.

I'm assuming the meaning was that a RHD isn't a 100% mirror image of the LHD version...aside from the pedal order, of course (and probably several other items I've forgotten).

I'm hoping they move the pedals too.

Good discussion on Fifth Gear tonight. I wonder if the Golf mk7 has the handbrake and bonnet release moved for the UK market ?

Golf Mk7 is electronic handbrake (at least the GT, GTD & GTI models deffinately are).

Handbrake location isn't an issue in an Octavia with DSG.

All MK7 Golfs are electronic handbrake (although the mould for the tunnel is shared, as the gap is there for the manual handbrake used in the Leon / Octavia)

For those that didn't see it, all three presenters went for the Octy III and the 2k - and that was for a non-vrs hatch, they didn't mention controls on left or right at all!

They did say it drove every bit as good as the golf, and that all vag group cars in standard trim were a bit dull though.
