Urban to Adventure

Featured Replies

I've had my urban for 18 months now and have done 38000 in her! Since I joined a search and rescue dog team earlier in the year, the 2wd has got me almost stuck in a couple of situations. So it was time for an upgrade to a 4x4, so popped into the dealer yesterday and am now collecting my shiny new adventure next week!! I added the wheel arch extensions so it will look just like my urban which I just love!

I had the 110 remapped up to 176 bhp and this has given me an average mpg of 54, so think i will do the same on the Adventrue as it has 4 wheels to drive rather than 2!

Can't wait!!

110 to 176 - wow!

The remap made it so nice to drive, it pulls right from 40 in 5th and the mpg took a huge jump too!

Wow indeed!

62.5% increase in power from a (stage 1?) remap!!!

Which map do you have?

I agree, but did not like to question as my days of engine tuning are way in the past, when only a skimmed head, polished ports, K&N filter and big bore exhaust were the only options (on a petrol engine of course).

I thought it was well known that the 110 and 140 diesels were the same as the 170 except for some minor details?

Chipping the 1.6Tdi or 110Tdi sounds like a great value idea to me (unless you are doing track days when the extra brake size in the 170 model might be important!) ;)

That has answered that then - thanks. Must do more homework on chipping.

The 110 and 140 are very much physically the same engine, just a different factory map and gearbox. The 170 again very similar but it also adds a different Turbo.

Therefore the 110 and 140 will map to similar levels of tune. Only concern I'd have from my 110 experience are the brakes, which are the same calliper type as fitted to our 70 & 86 PS Fabia's  :S and unlike those on the 140 are difficult to upgrade, as you need to replace the bearing housing as well as the calliper and disc.

Stop re mapping your cars because they may need ECU updates by the dealers to resolve faults. Re mapping can cause problems so STOP IT.

Or stop going to the dealers...

I've been wondering which engine to look at in a Yeti and, given this, would now consider the 110 Tdi as a potential buy.

Still can't believe it though (but that's just my lack of 'tuning' knowledge & experience.)

A somewhat OTT posting, considering the expeience of members here and reports from REPUTABLE tuners who sponser this forum.

Graham, feeding them only encourages them.

I didn't know the build-up to Christmas was also troll time. :giggle: I thought it was only elves.

according to my service manager the later ecu's have a memory that if you remap it and skoda plug there computer in it can now detect that it has been tampered with and automatically notifies vag group which will void your warrenty

Oh really? :)

Its always been possible to detect a remap, but a lot of dealership staff just make stuff up to make it sound like they know what they are talking about.

All very well having a 110tdi mapped up to 176 bhp, BUT your Yeti will have smaller inferior brakes compared with a 170tdi, so I guess a brake upgrade will be needed also.

You mean I could have invalidated my warranty?! ;)

I think you did that quite a while ago...

Would you like a dark corner to sit in so that the shock isn't too bad? :giggle:

Did your insurers accept the remapping?  If so, what was premium increase?  (Or haven't you told them ??)

+1

I'd be interested in the answer to these two questions, although as my car is new, I wouldn't consider a remap for a few years yet.

Figure on around a 10% premium increase. :)

I looked at remapping my 110 TDi, but my insurance company quote a maximum power increase of 20%, anything beyond that and they won't cover me.

The other issue was the need to open the ECU and potential for warranty issues.

Amazed at the fuel economy though - my 110 averages a genuine (Fuelly brim to brim) mid 40's MPG. Maybe the OP is quoting Maxidot readings??

The remap was done at amd, i left the car with them for the day. They said it could have had more power but it would have then started lo loose mpg. As i do a lot of miles it wasn't worth it, i just wanted a smoother drive and more mpg. The insurace didnt go up as i got it done as soon as i collected the car, they said it was the same as the 170 so insured it as that!

Not sure why you would want to upgrade the brakes as the car still weighs the same etc, so will still only ever need to stop from 70mph!!

Cant wait for the Adventure now, only a few days to wait.
