Before I lose my head and take it to a specialist - ideas?

Featured Replies

Ladies and gents, I need to draw on your vast knowledge base before I lose my rag and take the car into my local ICE specialist to diagnose.

Problem:

I've installed a nice, new double din Kenwood in the Fabia (mk1 VRS) and it works fine...most of the time. BUT it randomly and without warning will not turn on some times. This appears to be more frequent at the moment and it is really winding me up.

I assumed, initially, that it was simply a blown fuse issue. However, when I check the fuse on the back of the head unit, it isn't blown. When I then put the fuse back in (the same fuse) the HU powers up and runs perfectly fine for a while before cutting out again - never seems to cut out mid-use but just won't turn on after I've turned the ignition on.

I've got no idea why or what would make it do this so don't really know where to start - and, unsurprisingly my car research friend (Google), has failed to come up with the goods...

Anyone got any idea what might be causing this?

Be much appreciated if I could avoid parting with any cash to get this diagnosed so all suggestions, no matter how off the wall, will be welcome!

It could be as simple as a faulty head unit, dead on arrival is not unheard of.

yeah, agreed sounds like a dodgy head unit.

I feared that it may be the case that the HU was TFd. I'm beyond the stage of simply returning it, unfortunately, so will need to have a "quiet word" with the company to see if they will replace it from the goodness of their hearts.

Cheers
