Retro Fit Power Boot?...

Featured Replies

Does anybody know if this is possible as an aftersales option?...

I initially went for this option at order, along with the KESSY option, but it was either 12 weeks wait for these or a 2 week wait from stock without the options (Company Lease Car)... So impatience won, but this was the one option I really wanted.

i wouldnt have thought so. I did see another reservoir that wasnt on another vrs and I wondered if it was fluid for the boot hydraulics.  I could be wrong though

I wouldn't bother personally, if the same as that on the Superb it is slow, non-intuitive and intensly irritating (imho of course)

The power boot is electric, the drive is in the struts.

ah, thanks Neily.  Wasnt sure if it was hydro with the struts.  Wonder what the extra reservoir under my bonnet is?

I find its one of the best and most used features of my car and the speed is fine.

What reservoir, where abouts?

The first time you do it in a multi story to realise too late that youve not set the opening setting low enough and it crunches against the ceiling would be pretty regrettable.

Not to knock people who have spec'd this but unless you have some form of disability to which an assistant of this nature is more or less essential how much work is it honestly just to open and close it yourself. Its a bit like Kessy, a great thing to impress your friends and family with initially but for me id see it as 300 quid i could (and probably should have) spent on something more useful.

Chucking lots of these types of options onto a Skoda really for me makes the difference between the car being reasonable value new car money or nearly new 3 series/c class money.

Agreed. The only thing I really needed was cruise control and a spare wheel... lost count of how many cars I've seen with those temporary ones one recently and can't help but wonder where the owners would be without them - probably with a can of foam or waiting for Kwik Fit to bring a new tyre.

They're well kitted out but I do think cruise control should be standard. Still, each to their own and I can see the use of all extras in some cases. As a first time new car buyer I did get all excited at the thought of adding extras that I wanted but then I reined myself in... straight after i'd added sunset glass and black pack :giggle:

On the other hand I love mine, exactly how quick do you need it to open/close? I open mine whist about 10' away from the car and it is open when I get to the car, to close I pull the parcel shelf back and either use the button on the tailgate or the remote, either way it is closed by the time I get in the car or back to the front door.

We if you let happen you're a fool.  This situation is no different to a normal manual boot, just stop it with your hand.  Although in 15 years driving i'm yet to find a multi-story car park with a ceiling that low you can't fully open the boot of an average sized car like an octavia.

One of the reasons I picked it is because my girlfriend struggled with the boot on my mkII as it was a bit of a stretch for her to pull it down from that height.  Plus it's just a nice option to have and an inexpensive one too.

No different to the muppet that just opens the non electric tailgate without looking at the roof height though surely? ... the difference being though the electric tailgate can be stopped at any point, the normal one cannot, it's fully open or closed!

Personally I want the tailgate open when I get to the car, rather than having to put my bags down again just to open the tailgate.

My pretty highly specked Superb was still 10k.cheaper than a lower specked A6, fine to compare but please compare apples with apples and not pears.

When I ordered my hatchback elegance I was disappointed that there was no option for electric boot open and close. I have searched a bit on a google with no results, but if anyone finds a way to make it happen on HB, then I would definitely get my car upgraded :)

You guys must have some really low ceilings in those car parks! :P The ones over here wouldn't bother a medium sized truck...

I really like this option (along with Kessy), it makes the car interaction a lot more relaxed. You know, just the same as a TV remote does. Why should I keep getting over to the TV to change the channels when I can just relax and press a button? :)

How do you get it to close using the remote? On mine can only close with tailgate button or (if you can reach it) boot handle! But think it is one of the best options on my car!

You need VCDS to make a coding change.

Is it really possible? Someone on here said the same but when asked about specifics, he disappeared into thin air.

I'd love to be able to close mine with the remote

It took a couple of years for the coding on the Superb to be 'found'.

I have yet to hook up a mk3 Octavia to VCDS so cannot say if the coding is available yet.

Find someone EXPERIENCED with VCDS to have a look at your car.

Fair enough but what are the chances you stop it in time when youve opened it up from a good distance away whilst thumbling for the remote

Lets face it much less likely to happen with a manual tailgate.

And sorry dont agree.....a £40k A6 is fairly run of the mill but a 30-odd K superb is expensive and as good as the superb is it neither really compares with an A6 in any way other than size.

Why would you open it from a distance when you can obviously see there's an obstacle in the way?!

This is rather daft... Yes, you can drive your car into the sea, that doesn't mean everybody's doing it anyway.

Couldn't put it better myself!

Hi Guys,

I wasn't questioning whether it was a worthwhile option, I was asking if it could be retro fitted!.... :sun:

Lol, I suspect it would be very expensive to retro fit....

Just because I dont much see the point in it or spending 300 quid on it fair shout to those that have and will do so; just my view and thats your call. Ive digressed enough

To the OP if youve not ordered it and the order is locked id just forget about it, its either going to be v expensive or impossible to retrofit, at least for the foreseeable anyway.
