Parting is such sweet sorrow ....

Featured Replies

Alas and alack my time with the Yeti is nearly up, my new VW Tiguan 177TDi R Line has reached these shores.

I will really miss the Yeti, it is the first in a very long line of cars that has really got under my skin.

Features I liked ...

  • The styling
  • The ride height
  • The heated seats (revelation those!)
  • The heated front screen
  • Towing prowess ... never wavered off its course in something in the order of thirty caravanning trips and 5000 miles.
  • Economy ... average according to maxidot is 43 ...dragged down by regular towing

I didn't like ...

  • The small boot

I was a bit apprehensive about changing to the Yeti after three great Octavia vRS TDi's, but these fears were soon put aside.

With free servicing it has only cost me a set of tyres and a set of wiper blades in just short of 30000 miles.

Would have had another Yeti in an instant but the new caravan we have on order is just too heavy for the Yeti hence the Tiguan.

I am also sad to be no longer dealing with West End Skoda ... after buying five cars in a row from Stuart it has been very strange dealing with someone else (read extremely maddening!)

So when the cherished transfer is comes through Yentle and I shall part.  It's been  a great journey!

 Couldn't you have found a caravan within the Yeti's limit?

I thought the Tiguan and the Yeti's towing weight were similar; both around 2000Kg?

To continue the classic quotes theme......

I would agree with your list of likes (except I can't comment on the towing because I've never towed) but to dislike "the small boot"? I know Scotland's famous for its rain but did the boot shrink after you got it? :giggle:

Enjoy your new car and think of it as tiding you over to the New Yeti arrives in a few years time.

Isn't the kerb weight thats the important figure ?

The latest Tiguan is a bit of a Bloater now with a kerb weight of nearly 1700 KG.

The latest Skoda figure for the 170 TDI 4x4 Outdoor Elegance is 1465 KG

Yup and if you take 85% of each of those weights you'll see why you need a Tig for a bigger van...

Will be sad to see you go Iain...  We should get a caravan trip arranged somewhere in the middle for Graham, yourself and the other Turtle dwellers to go to...  we will park your Tig a safe distance away.   :giggle:

The boot seems small, particularly as I have a proper spare wheel, but I'm amazed by how much I can get in it now that I have a dog guard.  I had the boot jammed full right up to the roof on a recent 400 mile round trip (the dog had to fit in the front footwell) with 4 passengers as well.  OK, the lack of rear view in the interior mirror meant it was a bit like driving a van, but otherwise the car drove and handled just as normal.

Yes, but decided to go for the 'van we wanted and compromise on the car.

It is the kerbside weight that is all important ... the Tig is a fair bit heavier, thus opening up a wider choice of caravan.

No the boot didn't shrink, like everything else it was a compromise I chose to make.

Compromise on the car?  I won't be alone in pretending I didn't hear that!

Just tell me when and where!

Graham's the boss. As he's constantly busy or away.

28 June - 3 July Kingsbury Water Park Camping and Caravanning Club Site near Tamworth

3 - 6 July Meathrop Fell Caravan Club Site at Grange over Sands in the Lakes

Then home ... for a few days before heading for Aberdeenshire.

Welcome to join us anywhere along the way.

Iain

All the very best to you with your Tiguan. I think you are the second to publish your swap to a Tiguan in recent weeks.

I previously had a 170SE Tiguan and it served me well for 28000 miles and just over 2 years. The only fault was that long life servicing was not set and it took 2 dealer trips to rectify......oh and people kept hitting it but you can't really blame the car for that.

I find the Yeti more nimble and less expensive to run. Or perhaps not.... as my company funded the Tiguan............. and my early retirement...so a good deal really.

Keep posting your towing knowledge. I have found it accurate and informative.

I am sure you have found mytiguan.com but I didn't find them quite as engaging as the characters on here.

Well tomorrow is swap day.

Emptied the Yentle today with a rather heavy heart.  Never been sad about changing cars before.  Oh well deed is done.

New caravan was collected on Friday and Yentle towed it well in very blustery winds but the van was almost empty.

Good luck with the Tiggy!  Be safe...
