Octavia Elegance - couple of spec questions

Featured Replies

Going to order a 2.0 TDi 150 Elegance estate with no options other than a spare wheel imminently. Feel the standard spec is more than adequate and the deal ive struck makes it a good value proposition (cheaper per month than the Blackline i bought beginning of the year).

Just have a couple of spec questions if someone with an elegance wouldnt mind answering them be appreciated.

* understand front assist has been axed. Not bothered as id never use it anyway but just wondering if SUK adjusted the list price accordingly or have put something else on as standard fitment in its place that they dont currently mention on-line or in the brochures?

* Do the standard elec fold mirrors come with boarding spots?

* Does it come with LED indirect night lighting and door handle LEDs as the vRS seems to?

* Am I right in saying although it has the intelligent lighting pack that it does not come with footwell or vanity mirror lighting?

Lol, so you know for a fact someone is never going to pull or run out infront of you? Or you mean you'd prefer to hit them?

Hi I have a july /2013 registered octavia estate dsg tdi elegance.

According to the August brochure Front assist is standard, not sure about current spec. Call SUK possibly.

Standard mirrors fold when you lock the car and the have little lights on the underside.

No leds on the door handles but there is soft lighting on the centre consul at night.

No footwell or vanity mirror lights.

Front assist was removed from standard spec in the October brochure, but there was no change in the list price, and nothing put on in it's place.

I managed to get compensation from the dealer and Skoda because I was misinformed at the time of placing the order, but most people aren't so lucky.

Maybe your're kidding, but It scares the hell out of me that people with this attitude are getting cars that brake for for them! Surely only time before one of these safety features kills someone :(

No matter how careful a driver you are, it's still possible that you can make a mistake, or someone else can do something daft directly in front of you.

Having front assist as an extra safety measure could save a repair bill or a life.

Nobody is saying that it's an alternative to paying attention and looking where you are going, but are you *that* sure about the quality of your driving that you'll never need it?

Dr Zoidberg...chance would be a fine thing.  Ordered after they had dumped it from the Elegance spec.  I agree though, would have been great to have as a security measure, but no replacement for due care and attention

Bless ya, that went right over your head didn't it? Lol.

These safety features aren't capable of killing anyone, it's just a car. If someone dies the only blame lies with the people involved.

Whats so funny? If it came with the car it'd be quite nice but ive survived quite happily without incident in the 15 years and countless 100's of K miles ive been behind the wheel without radar assisted braking. I therefore dont think I "need" it thanks.

It's the fact you said you "wouldn't use it" when there's no way you can know that.  It's like taking the airbags out because "i'll never use them as i'm not going to crash"

15 Years!!! You must be getting on a bit now and your reactions slowing.  Front assist might be quite handy!!!   :giggle:

Seems to be becomming a bit of a trend on here you cutting jibes at people and trying to cause arguments. I never asked you for your opinion on whether id use it or not Neily, put it this way whilst its a little disappointing the cars lost a £300 spec item its not something i would have spec'd and i can guarantee you i wont miss the car bleeping and stabbing the brakes because it thinks im about to murder someone; i use my eyes and careful consideration on the road to manage that. If people want it and find it useful thats fine but dont ridicule me about it because I say i'll never use it, if it was on the car id probably not use it but the car im getting wont have it anyway so its a bit of a pointless one.

Agreed so i'll leave you too it.

No need to be like that.

I would disagree that the systems aren't capable of killing anyone.  *Hopefully* they avoid more accidents than they create, but nonetheless the potential is there.  Systems like this can breed complacency, and there is also a risk that these cars could cause a collision if the car behind doesn't react as quickly as the automatic system.  Then there's the potential for software or hardware failure. I'm not against them at all though, I just worry about the attitude of some modern drivers.

If the car behind you hits you then the blame lies 100% with them, not because you have front assit or you stopped in time not to hit something.

Not necessarily, if you pull out in front of someone to overtake and the car sees a crisp packet and slams on the brakes before the car behind has had time to adjust to a safe travelling gap then you will have to take some of the blame for the resulting carnage.

Back on topic.

I have an November registration Elegance.

Front assist has been dropped form the Elegance spec due to supply issues, this also means you cannot option ACC.

Again back on topic, the folding door mirrors do have boarding spots. You get two led interior lights shining onto the area in front of the gear stick, but no door handle LEDs , at least not on my very early elegance.

I'd be disappointed if Front Assist were removed as a standard option and the price wasn't reduced. In the little time I have driven my car the FA has saved my bacon on 1 occasion and I am not too proud to admit it. So, if given the chance, I would spec this in over non-safety mod's every time.

I agree with you, while FA has not saved my bacon it enables you to have ACC which really makes driving easy.

The problem is it seems that makers can just change specifications and do nothing about the retail price.

To be fair to skoda, they didn't put the price up when it was briefly available as standard kit.

But wasn't it standard from launch on the elegance?

Nope. The original brochure showed that it was only available on cars built from about June or July, and was then removed for anything ordered after October.

Anyone who bought one in the first couple of months didn't get it.

Ah well, people can stop moaning then :)

Are you saying that the FA or ACC aren't even available as optional extras in the UK?
That would be interesting since they're offering the things pretty much everywhere on the continent. But maybe I misunderstood.
