I agree, only had the car since October and it's not been the nicest weather. But just opening the blind makes the interior so much lighter, and at on a clear night little one can look for shooting stars. I know it seems expensive but I don't regret getting it.

Saw one today for the first time and I am impressed, but it is a shame you lose the sunglasses holder.

I had my one open today for the first time.. it would have been better if it was 6'' bigger on the hatch

It's still nice to have it.. just need some  :sun:

There are also some sensors for interior monitor (alarm) in that place so in case you opt for the anti-theft alarm system no holder either.

I ordered one. It was expensive and not at all necessary but I really wanted one. Having seen the pics in this thread I don't think I will be disappointed!

Hi folks, I didn't see this option on the Irish options list when I placed the order.

I'm thinking of just adding it now as I have a few months to save and pay for while I await its build.

Have you the code so I could see if the dealer add it another way as I'm still awaiting acceptance of the order. May have some time to adjust.

Thanks.

Got it I think. Hopefully this is it for the Rs estate.

Panoramic sunroof:

Code PH8: Available on SE and Elegance

RRP inc VAT: £950

Money well spent IMHO

Defo, delighted i saw it here.

Its with Skoda IRELAND now as my dealer is trying to add it to the order. Not currently being offered in Ireland options.

Fingers crossed :(

Well thanks everyone, now I'm gutted I didn't order a sunroof!  Oh well, next time...

With all due respect, f*** off! I thought I had my dream car specs and now you tell me I must have the sunroof? I already went over budget by a 1000 EUR. Damn you, damn you all.

Just kidding, you're all good. I'm just jealous. :envy:

Better even than I had expected - and I have had sunroofs on almost every car since my Austin 1300 at uni in the 1970s. With that area of glass, I was slightly worried by internal temps, but, even without the blind, the tinted glass is v good at reflecting the rays, and enough light gets through the closed roof to lighten what would otherwise be a v dark (black Alcantara) interior. One feature of the roof's operation is its 'comfort' setting (a bit less than fully open) giving optimal (i.e. minimal) buffeting from the wind. I particularly like the functionality that allows you to close the roof or blind after you have removed the key from the ignition. At almost £1k it is certainly expensive and won't greatly enhance 2nd-hand value, but the open-air experience is well worth it for me. I can't imagine anybody regretting it.

You NEED the the sunroof....makes the experience in my view and no issues since Jan delivery...though I admit my yeti sunroof had some issues (flooding ) till they worked out some dufus had wired the drainage pipes INTO the car

Never was a sunroof fan since I had one in the seventies. In pre universal air con days, I naively expected a nice stream of cooling air and just got more sun burning my arms.

My neighbour's evoque has the full deal transparent roof, which I didn't notice (the whole car is black) until we were out at night and could see the stars.

Very impressed, no heat build up and full vision, especially when in the back.

Hope the skoda one is as good.

I'm so glad I specced the Pano Roof on my Estate. Kids feel less claustrophobic in the back and the cabin feels light. No apparent headroom sacrifice. Remember not to wash screen when you have it open though!

  • 1 year later...

Just caught up with this thread - our new estate with panoramic sunroof is due to arrive next week, three weeks ahead of schedule - the dealers were astonished! Now very glad I ordered it along with the reversing camera and space-saver spare wheel (what's the use of a can of foam if you get a gash in the sidewall?). Our Mk2 estate (being passed on to my son) has a rather teensy sunroof, but very pleasant on fine days. However after 8 years one of the drain channels got blocked and the car filled up with water - took months with a dehumidifier to dry it out. Anyone know where the drain tubes are on the Mk. 3?

Various videos of the panoramic sunroof in operation on YouTube. In one a dementedly laughing woman shows how to open and close it and how it normally goes back just so far but can be made to go further with extra pressure on the control knob. That was the case on the Mk. 2 as well, but opening it fully caused the most awful throbbing in the cabin at anything over 20 mph. Any experiences of the Mk. 3?

It's fine. A bit noisier all the way back but usable at motorway speeds.

Sunroof was a must have for us, only reason we got the wagon is that there was no Sedan available with our desired options and sunroof.   Now we have wagon with full panoramic roof and would never go back.  The tilt is almost silent even at highway speeds and the optimised low noise setting works well at highway speeds as well.   Haven't tried it in full summer yet but I don't foresee any problems as the A/C is excellent and there is an inbuilt blind.

It really opens up the back seat which in Octavias sans sunroof I find kind of closed in, especially with the tombstone front seats in the vRS.

Only downside is you lose the sunglasses holder.

Finally all the teenagers who use the back seats are very impressed.  You don't get a tougher audience  :D

Sorry to go against the grain here as it is very much personal choice, but just wanted to offer my thoughts against speccing this for a bit of balance as it is a lot of money for a nice to have option IMHO.

On the one hand my VRS interior is quite dark without the Sunroof so I wonder wether I should have specced one but having had a Sunroof in other cars they always just annoyed me as there is always a time where glare from the Sun gets just in between the edge of the Sunroof and your seating position, and I end up closing the blind anyway.

Plus with small children most of time you are trying to keep glare out of their eyes with window blinds etc.

So then basically the only time the blind gets left open is on a cloudy day! (Although I imagine the frosted portion in the Octavia helps with driver glare.)

Lastly I always wonder what would happen to the sunroof if you rolled the car in an accident! (Paranoia I know.)

Love the sunroof on mine. Had a fixed glass roof in my last car which I maintain really helped with giving a nice airy feeling in the back and helping my kids not feel too enclosed while travelling (particularly now with those talked about vrs seats)

More aware of the issues that may go wrong with a mechanical opening but I also specced the estate purely because I wanted the full glass roof. It is quite well tinted as well so should reduce glare a bit and I bet the view from the back is lovely on a nice day being able to look up at the sky! (I wouldn't know as I am always in the front :()

I didn't sepc it on my vRS because I thought it wasnt worth €1000 extra.

However, I now have the displeasure to drive a 320d every day & the panoramic roof & KnightRider style opening buttons are its only redeeming feature.

I think it will probably be on my next Skoda order...

Interesting you comment about glare. Where abouts do you live? I Live in Brisbane, australia which is the second hottest capital in australia (behind darwin) with average 262 days a year of sun (either full sun or partly cloudy) and I would never buy one without the pano roof. It's that good. I think i've had the blind closed half a dozen times, even in summer. My wife who is fair as a marshmellow even likes the roof as she doesnt get burnt through the glass. I havent ever seen sunlight come through the edge of the roof, only through an opening (i.e. when its closed, the tinted glass cuts 99% of glare out)

To be fair, I have side window tinting makes a huge difference to glare (I have 20% VLT tint on the car, which is dark, but not pimp/limo tint).

Each to their own of course, I know people that dont like convertibles or sunroof's but everyone that has been in our car always comments "wow!"

EDIT: Fixed picture showing tinting.

Pano is bloody nice...in a respect it actually lends itself to making the car look that bit better still...particularly on a lighter colour. The mock pano affair on the hatch doesnt so much IMHO.

That said its costly, heavy, complex and whilst I am sure its absolutely safe I would rather tin above my head than two sheets of toughened/laminated safety glass. A bit like having a windshield above your head :-)

If I was buying a built car with it already on I am sure id love it but I dont think now I would go out of my way to spec it.
