Panoramic Sunroof

Featured Replies

What's the collective thoughts on the panoramic sunroof on the estate, if you where going to be doing very high mileage and keeping the car for 4 - 5 years. I am a bit worried about the mechanism and the cost of any repairs outside of warranty.

Thoughts ??

  • Better even than I had expected - and I have had sunroofs on almost every car since my Austin 1300 at uni in the 1970s. With that area of glass, I was slightly worried by internal temps, but, even wi

  • It does have some safety benefit too though (bearing in mind the seat belts are partly there to prevent you being expelled through any of the windows in a crash) - if your car is suspended upside down

I doubt it's any more likely break than anything else on the car....

According to my dealer they have seen very little difficulties at all on the ones delivered. How it is down the line with leaks and so on is difficult to say of course. I just love mine as it feels like a totally different car to me.

I'd like to bring this back to life if I may. I'm one of those in a feature creep situation.. I've added a couple more bits to the order, but *really* couldn't justify the extra cost for the roof at the time of the purchase.

That was 16 weeks ago (and still no acceptance by factory), and I'm starting to feel buyers remorse on the sunroof. I know we don't have the sun at the moment, but could a member with the roof please pass on their thoughts - or better still, take a picture of the roof from inside the car in all states of open / closed / blind?

Wondering whether it could be the blagged as an extra for the car being over 18 weeks or more delayed already? Would I have a leg to stand on for this case?

Any real world pics would be great!

I think 900 quid for a sunroof panoramic or not is a big ask....in the same way over 1k is for bi-xenon lamps. Its nice but at that money wouldnt be for me and contributes to making a reasonable value for money proposition expensive.

Thats my thoughts, its a very expensive option, I don't doubt for one second that it isn't a great option on any estate, but I ordered my estate without it as at that kind of cost it just seemed so damed expensive, if it had been around the £600 mark it would of been considered seriously.

As for problems down the line, the only problems I have had with conventional sunroofs in the past is the pipes blocking up, quickly solved with a length of electrical flex put down it every 6 months or so, I can't imagine you would get much more than that?

Thanks for the quick replies! I was wondering about the grounds I had for arguing it as a freebee, doubtful I know haha!

A few pics (opened&closed&blind) is also in my first post here.

I wouldn't have ordered without one. It transforms the car IMO, but that's a personal choice. Far more use to me than xenons which I don't care about.

Its great and I'm glad I ordered it.

Not had much chance to use it with the current weather but the only criticism I have would be that it doesn't go closer to the windscreen. Great for the rear seat passengers.

I've had a few cars 10 years old + with sunroofs, all have worked perfectly... no problems with operation or seals so a 5 year old one should have no issues whatsoever.

I have the hatch with sunroof and would order another one tomorrow... love them... especially the estate version.

Thanks for the photo's guys! So do you think I could make them budge on price for this once my delay gets above 20 weeks or so or is this aiming for the moon?!

Definitely with the rest on this.

I have it on my estate and I think without it the interior would be too dark for me to happily live with all the time, especially with the sunset tints.

It makes the cabin a brighter place to be if you want it or as dark as night if you don't, I love it.

Just wish we had some half decent weather so I can make proper use of it!

Aiming for the moon jtypecav? Probably....

I really would have liked it but I suspect that it would have made the car too hot in summer, I live in oz and it's 40+ here today.

From what I saw it has a transparent shade but no full cover to block sun, is that correct?

It has a 'solid' not transparent blind on the inside, with that closed its like having no glass roof at all.

I believe it's motorised as well on the estate.

You're right Dr.

It has a heater style knob just behind the rear view mirror assembly that controls it all, motorised blind, motorised tilt and slide front half of the glass sunroof, lovely stuff.

Deffo worth it seriously makes a massive difference

Got my golf gti mk7 without sunroof big mistake wished I taken it now just money but it really does make a difference to the ownership experience,I now think worth every penny !!!!!

there ya go...

Harrumph.

It's all you beggars with sunroofs who have caused the last six months unremitting rain.

(Doesn't stop me wanting one as well, though!)
