Tart my Mk1 Furby or get rid ?

Featured Replies

Can't make my mind up. I've had it about a year and I'm getting bored of it. Thinking of getting a fast petrol as I barely do 10k a year. Something like a MK1 LCR or CTR would do, as they provide decent economy and running costs when you don't drive it like you stole it. BUT if someone could convince me into tarting my Furby up I may keep it. The only thing that puts me off is that it's expensive to get 200 horsepower and handling out of it. Also the fact that it hurts resale value, seeing as I'm not blessed with the highest paid job in the world.

Sell it

Pointless throwing good money after bad

Maybe a few years ago when the fabia was worth something but nowadays your looking at spending 75-100% of the cars value to get it to where you want to be

Sounds like unless you throw ££££ at the Fabia it's not going to be up to the standards of power or handling of either of the other cars you mention. Unless you want to mod it for the enjoyment of modding it then I would sell it.

Pretty much my thinking. Just wanting varied opinions on the matter. I'm sure there's someone out there with a super quick "mod" scheme or something. :P

Get a MkI 2.0 petrol.

I'm just kidding. The MkI 2.0 petrol is known as 'The Mustang Slayer'

Aaaaah, very clever aren't you ? I meant expand as to why I should get one. They are hardly rocket ships.

Is this a thread from many moons ago when everyone laughed at the poor person ? I find VXR drivers to be like that. "Beat a f%%$£$% Porsche me mate".

It is, before my time too, but someone had a 2.0litre Fabia and it was the fastest thing on 4 wheels

I've heard the legend when browsing other car threads. But I didn't think it to be true !

In all honesty i have thought about hybrid'ing my fabia - i maybe would have but I've got a second car and it gets to the point of diminishing returns.

I love my fabia its a great car overall for the 'price' (you'll find the is the most attractive reason for getting a fabia VRS for folk on here) - there's nothing much that will touch it overall for the price taking into consideration mpg, running costs, looks, modifying scope from stock, insurance, nippy'ness. When remapped its quicker than subtly modified say Saxo VTS's of the old hot hatch era - that's quite an achievement.

If you put a hybrid turbo on your going need extra components: FMIC, clutch, PD160 intake pipe, exhaust to get the best performance out of your setup (who wouldn't?) your talking in the region of 2-2.5k (best case) if you want a reliable setup, this is say a helix clutch not some of the crap ones because then it becomes a chore to drive.

You 'may' get headlift so invest in say ARP bolts - my mate had at 225BHP. I was going to do all the work myself and i think it was just under 2.5k when i totted it up.

Recently I'd been in a Hybrid fabia and was happy to do so and they are quick and surprise a lot of cars - i did like it, then you get some petrol car that is around the same amount of power and it pips you up top. You struggle to put the power down and you find it can't handle the power too well without spinning the tyres or depositing you in the hedge on a corner/roundabout - you get done by a petrol car that is designed to do that. To add insult to injury my other mates remapped E90 330d destroyed us (and its just an se)  :( - this is a 20006 second hand car that you can buy for not a lot more that can actually handle the power for not much more than second hand fabia in good knick with a full hybrid setup.

I'm all for modifying cars, i love it actually (and i make money from it as a side job) but it comes to the point where it gets very expensive to get smallish gains and you push the car out of its designed envelope - there's always 'room left on the table' but that hybrid even with a good map it handles just 'okay' and spun wheels which didnt allow you to get the power down and make the most of it - a quaife would sort that but still its another 1k or more.

If you must, just get a good remap, stick Ap coilovers on, EGR delete, RARB and call it a day - i stopped at that.

I'm not taking anything away from hybrid owners at all some people do it regardless of money and i can't knock them for that.

That's the thing really. All I'd have to do is buy the MK1 LCR and remap it and it's bye bye Skoda which I've spent thousands on to even match it stock.

Yup and an lcr is like £3000 lol

Already has brembo's and better chassis, obviously fuel costs are a bit higher but from a 1.8t driven normally you can still see the right side of 30mpg

There's a lovely 05 round here with 79k on the clock. 4500 they want.

The vRS is a good car but dynamically it’s a long way off a hot hatch in terms of handling and driving enjoyment. A Stage 1 mapped vRS can be fun and give some hot hatches a good run but eventually they will catch up and get past as the gearing is generally better top end.

I owned an EP3 Type R for almost 4 years. They are a fantastic car for the money and the engine/gearbox combo is one of the best I’ve used. Definitely a very fun and engaging drive but coming from a turbo car you may find it a little strange at first.  Worth a test drive though! You do have to adjust and learn how to drive it properly to get the best out of it but once you do it’s very rewarding. If you want a nice lump of torque lower down though the LCR maybe the better car for you but it's heavier and doesn't handle as well as the CTR out of the box.

Sell up and buy a type r. Better engine, better gearbox, better drive. Only reason i sold mine was poor mpg

FML give it a rest, both cars are glorified shopping trolleys and neither could be called "Fast" really could they.

Just got a MKI 2.0 petrol, don't think it'll be having an Porsches! Quicker than my old Passat though, more fun and I can lock it!

Clio 172/182

And driving gloves

Beats the lot
