Headlight Cleaners, Polish & Restore products

Featured Replies

The headlights on my Superb mk1 (halogen) are starting to cloud over, so looking to clean and polish them.

There are a few products on the market - I was wondering if anyone has any experience or advice before I give it a go?

  • Uncle Pooter's Headlight polish & restorer (Blue Bullet)
  • Meguiars PlastX Cleaner & Polish
  • Turtle Wax headlight lens restoration kit
  • 3M Headlight Lens Restoration Kit
  • QUIXX Headlight Headlamp Restoration kit
  • T-Cut Headlamp Restoration kit

Thanks in advance

Grab some tooth paste and use a cutting pad. Works a treat plus they will smell minty.

I tried the toothpaste and it didn't work for me.

Was looking at the 3M kit as it's less than £18 on eBay and has the most progressive stages to it which, in my mind, would be most likely to give the best results (but not the least work).

I used some arm and hammer tooth paste on a BMW X5 which had gone so foggy you couldn't see the bulbs. With a bit of elbow grease they came up like new. Although they have started to oxidise again so not sure if there is something you can do to protect them.

Should stop the decay    :giggle:

Some medium polish on a light cut pad/finishing pad will on a rotary polisher will restore it easily in no time

Shame youre not nearer

If you have some Autosol metal polish (or similar) try that.

If you can, you may as well use something you have already..

The Meguiars kit was featured in an American classic car mag recently and they were suitably impressed...apparently useful on lots of other dull/discoloured bits too...although as others have said if there is a cheap & cheerful solution that works......

I got the 3M kit for my Passat headlights and was quite pleased with the results. Didn't get round to MOTing with the one I'd polished, but certainly looked better and think I noticed a bit of a difference on the road too.

I had tried it first with a spare headlight I bought off a forum for a few quid and used a cordless drill with the assembly out the car. Think this turned out better than the one already installed with a corded drill. Still have a little of the polish left and some spare discs so think I'll give it a go on my new Fabia as it's looking a bit frosty.
