Blank DVD-Rs. Where from?

Featured Replies

Just been asked by my Mum to copy a non copywritten DVD for her a few times.

Having never copied a DVD before (no... seriously) I don't know where the best place is to get blank discs from?

Also, I have a DVD-RW drive on my PC at home, but have never used it in that context. I haven't got the foggiest if it even has DVD-RW software. Can anyone recommend a good program I can get online if all else fails and I have to setup a DVD copying program myself?

 Ta!

svp communications is a good source for discs, use them all the time.

www.121cdr.co.uk is the url. Depending on the source disk you may need to use dvd shrink to reduce the overall size from dvd-9 to dvd-4 format.

Second'd for SVP

Bought 20 for

ebuyer.com is very good as well, very often have deals but at the moment it is

Check out dvdrhelp.com for everything you need to know about copying a DVD. Be warned, it's not an easy task (well until you have everything set up!) and it is time consuming too as you have to decode and re-encode the video.... :D

Might pop into Tesco's then.

If you have a Staples nearby they are selling 50 samsung DVD+ or -r for

What about good programs for copying?

Depends on if the source disk is encrypted or not and how big the recorded disk is.

If its not encrypted and less than 4.2GB, just use nero or whatever your recorder came with and do a diskcopy.

If its encrypted or bigger than 4.2GB you will need to rip the disk to your hd and reencode the video down to 4.2GB. This can be messy and is time consuming. I use DVDdecrypter and then DVD2one before burning with nero.

A couple of good freeware programs for burning DVDs/CDs and getting films onto a single layer DVD are DVD Shrink and CDBurnerXP Pro, not as good as Nero but then it doesn't cost anything neither.

I tend to use DVDdecrypter to get the files onto my hard drive, and then part of Nero to work out which bits to disard, and elsewhere what quality to use in order to get under the 4.3gb limit...
