iPods compatible with Mitsumi

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Since Admunsen doesn't support video via SD card / USB I've been forced down the mitsumi/ami route.  However I've tried both a 3rd gen iPod Nano and a 2007-2009 iPod classic in both "PC" and "Macintosh" format and both show as "Device not supported".

So does anyone know for sure what iPods are supported?  I tried someone's iphone 4 today and it played music but didn't appear to give any control to the stereo at all.

All I want to do is to be able to sit and watch videos in the car when I'm waiting for people...

For info I'm using an Audi "AMI" video cable (ie with red collar) to 30 pin.

Thanks

Strange - I have an iPhone 4 and it is fully controllable through the Mitsumi. Just a thought, if you re trying to use the multi function steering wheel controls they don't work without the ignition on, but strangely the stereo does....

I use an iPod Classic with my MDI. Haven't tried video yet though.

Also I've noticed that you can't choose artist, album etc through the steering wheel, it all has to be done through the bolero which is annoying.

I was trying to access the "selection" option in the admunsen.  I've also noticed that the steering wheel controls don't work without the ignition, which winds me up as it annoys me when the power symbol on the volume is squint (yes yes I know).

To be fair I was in a rush with the iPhone as I was doing it at lunch and we were in a rush.

Out of interest how old is your classic?  I'm just wondering if it's cause mine are both from 2007-2009ish although both support video.

My 2006 5th gen iPod video worked fine with the blue cable but didn't show album art or video so I got the red cable and got 'device not supported' so switched to my 3rd gen iPod touch and I get album and video with that.

Now that is interesting - at least that'll keep swmbo happy with regards to getting music off her classic.

Are you by any chance able to play video off the 3rd gen touch?

Yes.

Forgot to add my iPhone 4S works fine with the red cable too, including playing movies.

I wonder whether the "red" cable only works with IOS devices.

I can't find a compatibility list anywhere, the dealer nice and supportive though they are wouldn't know an iPod from a hand grenade and Skoda UK are just completely hopeless.

If it wasn't for the forums I'd probably have gone postal by now :D

Well it's got an Apple 30pin connector on the end......

That would be far too logical...

:D

I have the red collar cable which came as a genuine skoda accessory. I use an iPhone 4S due to the issues with the lightning connector (it's the ONLY reason I've not changed my phone yet until the cable issue is definitely sorted).

I have a program (smart converter)on my iMac which converts videos so the iPhone recognises them (in other words not had to purchase movies through iTunes). It all works ok for music and film, I have no idea about iPod compatibility.

To be honest considering I had to pay £100 for the Mitsumi socket you'd think that a large group like VAG would have the cable and compatibility issues sorted so you can buy a new apple product buy a cable and it all work without all this pratting about!

The Mitsumi socket feels a bit of a rip off at the moment to be honest although it does work, it does not work with the up to date iphones.

There is now a cable for the lightening connector.

Yes, seen that has been released. Just need to see if it works like the 30 pin cable does. Video is of course the big question!!

For info,

I finally managed to get hold of a iPhone 4s to play with for 20mins, it's a bit fiddly and the Admundsen screen isn't great but I can confirm I was able to play video off the phone - not only video stored on the iphone but also content on itv player (ie "push" rather than "pull").

However considering the system I would doubt the new lightning connector will support video unless it's really expensive and converts digital to analogue.

How? Wondering if this will work on my bolero...

Don't know if it's as simple as just playing the video in the on demand app but I did it using the following,

1.Play a video off the iphone (Iphone should then show "TV connected".

2.Then switch to the OD app and play there. The video should override the stored video.

One thing I did notice was the video cut back to the stored video when the adds were loading so I think this might be more of a hack than a feature.

Other thing is I used itv player as that's all my mates wife had on her phone I suspect it should with with any od app as long as it supports "TV out" and the internet connection method (I don't think 4od supports playing over mobile network).

I'm now torn over whether to buy a iPhone 4S or 30 pin iPod touch or wait and hope the ami lightning connection is confirmed to support video (I very much doubt it).

Sorry if I'm not being very clear as I'm on iPhone at work. I'll try to remember to look when I get home.

Can anybody tell me where you all got your red collar cables from?  I don't fancy having to pay £50 at a dealer.

This is what I bought

Look at this on eBay:

That's copied from eBay so the exact cable I've been using for the above.

Only thing is I've yet to find an ipod that works with it. I suspect all ios devices with 30pin works fine as both the iphone 4 and 4s worked (so older ipod touches and iPhones) but I can't guarantee it.

Certainly the older ipod classic and nano I had does NOT work with this cable.

aah ok.  I have a 5th Gen classic.  Might be that mine wont work with this cable.  I may have to 'borrow' my wifes iPod touch instead.

Just as an update,

Thanks to LadyVienna for sending me her blue 30pin mitsumi cable, I can confirm my older iPods all work with Mitsumi/Admundsen although for MUSIC only.

Whats the difference between red and blue I have the cable as shown on the ebay link from a mk6 GTI and it works on a nano in my wifes fabia vRS.?

For the 30 pin iPod connector cables

Blue:  Cheaper than red cable - supports audio ONLY but does appear to support all/most apple devices with a 30 pin connector (I'd also reckon you could get lightning devices such as iPhone 5 working with a genuine Apple Lightning to 30 convertor to work)

Red:  More expensive - supports audio and video, however none of my iPods worked, the Admunsen shows "Device not supported".  My Mate's Wife's iPhone 4s worked fine with music and video (even on demand apps), some people here have stated very new iPods are working with the red cable but I've not been able to confirm that.

There is also a lightning cable (iphone 5 etc) knocking about however dealers don't seem to know much about it, it's expensive and I've been unable to confirm it supports video.  This is my new years resolution - once my car gets repaired from it's argument with an artic lorry.
