iPods compatible with Mitsumi

Featured Replies

Red: More expensive - supports audio and video, however none of my iPods worked, the Admunsen shows "Device not supported". My Mate's Wife's iPhone 4s worked fine with music and video (even on demand apps), some people here have stated very new iPods are working with the red cable but I've not been able to confirm that.

Red also supports album art...... Works fine with my 4 year old 3rd gen iPod touch so it's not just "very new" ones.

  • Because everyone didn't just throw their old iphones and ipods in the bin when the new cable came out.

  • I wonder whether the "red" cable only works with IOS devices.   I can't find a compatibility list anywhere, the dealer nice and supportive though they are wouldn't know an iPod from a hand grenade a

  • Don't know if it's as simple as just playing the video in the on demand app but I did it using the following, 1.Play a video off the iphone (Iphone should then show "TV connected". 2.Then switch to

Sorry - for clarification what I said iPods I meant non-IOS iPods (ie classic, mini etc) rather than the iPod touch which is pretty much an iPhone without the radio.

Thanks for info.

so do you just ask for the "red cable" from your dealer etc...will they know what that is or is there a part no they need?

For the 30 pin iPod connector cables

Blue: Cheaper than red cable - supports audio ONLY but does appear to support all/most apple devices with a 30 pin connector (I'd also reckon you could get lightning devices such as iPhone 5 working with a genuine Apple Lightning to 30 convertor to work)

There is also a lightning cable (iphone 5 etc) knocking about however dealers don't seem to know much about it, it's expensive and I've been unable to confirm it supports video. This is my new years resolution - once my car gets repaired from it's argument with an artic lorry.

Ok, so I got hold of the new mdi lightning cable. I don't own an iphone 5, so I managed to borrow an ipad mini with lightning connector. The car sees the ipad as an ipod when plugged in with new cable. All the features are there such as album art work and full control of music library via steering wheel as you would get with 30pin mdi cable. It's the video I was interested in though. Now it shows video as an option, I can go into it, this shows the list of videos such as rental film, purchased film, music video etc. If I tap on any of them it will go into the folder but reports on the screen "no playable video files found". I had a further play but alas it would not play anything. I have no idea if it means that there was nothing in the ipad it recognized or if it meant you can't play anything video at all. There are videos on the ipad, music and film which were apparently purchased off iTunes. So the new cable is great as it does away with any 30pin to lightning adapter issues that some have experienced. The video side needs more investigation! It could be hardware, or an option not ticked in the settings or it could be a software compatibility issue. I have no idea as yet. It's a start I suppose!

I now have tried with an iphone 5c and still does not work!

As an update:

Before Christmas I asked SkodaUK to provide me a list of iPods compatible with video and Mitsumi/AMI/MDI.  Just got hold of them on the phone today - their technical services have been try to get me all week.

They've ordered a MDI cable and are going to try some iPods on a like for like car.

What a joke!

No, it's looking like only new iOS iPods can steam video as older ones aren't compatible with the red mitsumi cable which you need to play video.

thanks for the reply neil im sorry if im repeating this same question but did u say your 3rd gen ipod touch with the red cable does play video thro the admudsen unit in mk 3 octy

Yes but not admundsen, mines a bolero but if it works on the bolero I'm sure it'll work on the admundsen.

Boy oh boy. How complicated can an Ipod/ IPhone be? Oh wait a min, its an Apple. Says it all i suppose.

So if i may. What'll happen if i connect my IPod (a normal basic Ipod that just plays music), to my cars USB slot using the Ipod/ Computer connection cable that comes with the Ipod? It would seem daft if a computers USB slot can read Apple/ Non Apple USB cables, but the car only reads non Apple USBs.

Seems so much easier to just chuck all my music onto an SD card and play it that way. In fact, considering i havent used my Ipod for so long now, and I cant see much of a reason for using it, Im struggling to work out the point of them. CD to laptop to SD card to car/ hifi. Or CD to car/ Hifi. Bobs your uncle, Fannys your aunt.

Yes Neily, I suppose that now makes be the worlds No. 1 Skoda/ Smart Phone/ Apple hater

Can please tell me the part number for the mdi lightning connector cable?

So you are saying Skoda UK sell an Ipod cable, but they dont know what devices it works with?

Ive ordered this cable & have an iphone5 so I know it wont work when I go to pick the car up, but I will be refusing point blank to pay for a cable that doesnt work with my ipod!

Im still very confused as to why VAG are selling a 30 pin connector ipod cable when it was effectively replaced a couple of years ago!

Would really appreciate if you could post up a picture of the F0051510AD cable that you do get when you pick it up

So dealer let me know that 4F0051510AD is on backorder and will contact me when it's in. Once I get it I'll post an update about the cable.

  • 2 weeks later...

Dealer emailed. 4F0051510AD is in picking it up tomorrow. Will report back my findings.

Picked my car up today and surprised to find the blue collar MDI cable was on the passenger seat waiting for me!

Work was too much today. Will get lead on sat and report back.

My experience is identical to previous members. Before Christmas, dealership (Rainworth Skoda) at first rejected the possibility of a cable different to the red one, because nothing showed on their system. They blamed the non-connectivity on my 2006 iPod.

Last week, armed with a brand new birthday present 160gb Classic I resumed discussions. A day later they contacted me and said that a) there is no alternative cable to the red one on the system, B) but they had 'made enquiries' and found that there is another cable and which they had ordered.

It works a treat. It also works a treat with my 2006 60gb job

Here are the details in full.

It has a blue band at the Mitsumi end. The lead makes a right handed junction with the insert into the iPod (the red lead is a straight insert).

The numbers on the part are:

5E0.051.510

16.02.13

IC40417/RO-39518.

Good luck!

Test the video / cover-art yet?

Which dealer is this. Trying to locate one of these in the States is impossible. Need to find a Euro dealer that will ship to the U.S.
