  • Because everyone didn't just throw their old iphones and ipods in the bin when the new cable came out.

  • I wonder whether the "red" cable only works with IOS devices.   I can't find a compatibility list anywhere, the dealer nice and supportive though they are wouldn't know an iPod from a hand grenade a

  • Don't know if it's as simple as just playing the video in the on demand app but I did it using the following, 1.Play a video off the iphone (Iphone should then show "TV connected". 2.Then switch to

where did you get the cable from?  Ive just rung 3 audi dealerships none of whom are able to buy the part - the part number is good, but shows as unavailable

I picked up my new Octavia yesterday from Crawley Down.  Very pleased with the car & I like the dealer.  He told me I would need the cable for connecting iphone, so I popped up to their parts department who told me that they have been trying to source but to no avail as they have had customers requesting the same.

I have today raised a call with Skoda UK - telling them that the Mitsumi connection optional extra is useless without a lightning cable & nowhere in their literature does it state that the connector only works with certain model iphones.  I wouldnt have purchased the mitsumi connector had I known & now I have no way of charging my iphone.

Hopefully will get a response soon & will post up response, but might be useful if others who are looking to source this cable also raise a call with them -

Well if its genuine and it should be then it'll work fine.

I just gave my dealer the part no and he did the rest. Didn't charge me either.

Must get round to trying the dock to lightning adaptor I bought for mine.....

Do not buy the white collaref cable! I did and no it doesn't work. I'm trying to sell mine but noone is interested :( i believe it's for vw golf 6 or sth. I get constant 'phone connected' 'sound' over and over with it.

Yup - my cable arrived today - its the white collar as you mention.  Doesnt work either, but I did make sure that I could get a refund when I ordered.  Manager of parts department was fine.  He said theyve had loads back & they dont work with anything aside from a very few basic VWs.

Worth a shot by getting in touch with where you bought it from to get a refund

Got a call from Skoda uk. Surprise surprise there is no cable presently & no idea if there are plans to make one.

So I said waste of time having the mitsumi connector then - either give me my £100 back or feel free to remove it and replace with usb ports.  She is going to raise it with next level whatever that means, but she said that skoda uk dont get any more information than the dealer (in other words, dont call us speak to the dealer).

Pretty poor customer service experience from Skoda UK, but theres still time for them to turn it around.

Got a response from Skoda - they will refund me the £100, but no mention about removing the mitsumi connector.

I guess long term a lightning connector will come out so for now, I think I will leave it in and just run a cable from the cigarette lighter.

They blame Apple for not allowing them to make the lightning connectors, but as we have seen above, other parts of the VAG group are selling lightning connection cables, so not really sure whats going on.

At the moment I am using bluetooth connection, and running an app called TuneIn Radio (also used by Sonos with their application), which lets you stream internet radio over standard 3G & is much less prone to cut outs than DAB stations are.

Why not just buy one from VW or Audi?

Don't use video - but all I did when I chnaged my iPhone 4 to a 5S was to get the lightning - 30 pin adaptor cable and plug it in to the end of the original Mitsumi lead, I would have thought functionality would be the same?

I would but

VW One did not work

Audi one i am unable to source. Someone on this thread did get one, but hasnt responded to say where he obtained

Sadly the adapter doesnt fit if you have an iphone case at least it doesnt with my case, so i would have to remove case each time which isnt ideal. My wife has this setup with her parrot and its clunky

I did, I said my skoda dealer got it for me. I told him the part no. 2 weeks later he had it. Think he pulled in a few favours to get it as it's not official skoda parts.

I'm not going to give the dealer name as I highly doubt he wants a flood of calls over it. Audi can get you the part. Visit an audi dealer. Give then the part no and wait for stock.

I've been paging through this thread with interest since I'm looking to get the mk3 mitsumi retrofitted. Did the green collared lightning cable provide Album Art and Video like the red collared 30 pin?

Correct - I made that mistake, but the adaptor cable fits fine with the case.

I've still to try in all honesty.

I had to reset my phone and haven't copied tunes back over to it yet. I'll get it done this week.

I threw my library on an SD before I received the cable and have been using that most of the time. It's much easier for short journeys than plugging the phone in. Also I don't like the cable left in the mitsumi port as the sliding door below doesn't close, so it's 2 things to plug in each time. It's also a pain to get in and out the phone box. I generally leave my phone in my pocket or use the simply clever phone holder. I wish the mitsumi cable reached that. It doesn't.

Having seen the Lightning cable, I'm not even going to bother with Mitsumi on my upcoming Octy for the same reasons with cases.

Shame VAG didn't go the whole hog and make it work like the Ford (GM and probably other) systems do - off the USB cable for the Apple device.

IMO the only real use for Mitsumi is with an ipod, you can just leave it in all the time then, not sure on the whole point of using it for a phone.

They do, if you spec Columbus.

Hi all,

so bit the bullet based on reviews & comments above.

I bought the Audi Dual cable kit - serial number 4F0 051 510 AF - which comes with the lightning mitsumi connector with the green sleeve and the USB mitsumi connector.

I have a Skoda 1.4 DSG SE - with a Bolero Headunit & paid the £100 for a useless mitsumi connector.  Ive now paid £45 for Audi Cables & they dont work.

When I plugged in the lightning cable I got an IPOD ERROR message on the screen.  However it did charge.  Serial Number on cable is 4F0 051 510 AD

When I plugged in the USB connector & then plugged in the lightning cable, I got no option to play media etc, but it did charge.  Serial is 4F0 051 510 AB

Ive attached pictures - hopefully it will save someone the hassle of buying the wrong cables.  In mean time, my quest continues. Dealer never calls me back & Skoda UK say that theres no option that is supported for lightning connector.
