  • I think so, after replacing the front bush again, changing top mounts, replacing subframe and getting the wheel alignment done 3 times it seems to be "ok" at the moment. Sadly the camber is not as mu

  • I got my RS-R's yesterday   They make damn good dining room table ornaments lol

Who lost coolant?  you have lost me with this one...

Don't be spreading your dirty slippy grease on the corners Cossie, could be catastrophic!!

I will be interested to see your ducting as this is something I was going to fit to the Golf but after upgrading to the 4 pot callipers I am going to see how they go without ducting.

What are ya man or mouse ??? :D

It all add's to the fun lol.

Yeh no probs there isn't much to see, nothing exciting i'm afraid.

The last day we were all on, in October.

Towards the end of the day, think it was a Civic, or a Saxo, dropped coolant all over the road at Druids. Ended up with concrete dust everywhere. First time through that dust cloud I almost slipped off the track.

I remember Pasty loosing a locking wheel nut, and the brake issue on the Fabia but thats all, I am getting old though.

Popped in for a quick look, black Octavia VRS was being recovered off the track,Skud vrs?  :bandit:

Well interesting day.

Managed to do a cv joint just doing sighting laps, so spent the start of the day swapping the n/s/f driveshaft.

Then I went out and did a few laps, before coming back in with a rear caliper blinding slightly.

So i removed the caliper and found a siezed slider, managed to free it up easy enough and sorted that problem out.

Did 1 more lap then the session was Red flagged and they closed the track for lunch.

After lunch got a few nice laps in, was going well (a couple of sideways moments) but after 7 or 8 laps decided to pit and let the brakes cool down.

Went back out with Jason and got in about 3 laps before I heard a couple of loud clunks when cornering, next thing I knew the steering wheel was 1/4 turn off centre when driving staight (but the car still drove in a straight line).

Needless to say, I pitted and jacked the car up, couldn't find anything obvious that is broken, it does look like there is some play in the steering arms, but not 100% sure if thats the problem.

Anyway I packed up for the day at that point, grabbed a passenger ride with Jason (thanks again), and decided to leave early in the hope of missing some of the rush hour traffic.

As I pulled out of the garage the clonks came back so i'm thinking I might have managed to do a 2nd driveshaft today :D

I managed to get home ok :whew: , if I go full lock to the left, there is 2 loud clonks and then the steering wheel goes straight again, but turn right, OR (and this did worry me a couple of times on the motorway) go over a large bump and the steering wheel would jump to the right again :wonder:

Anyway will try and have a look at it sometime next week, but for the moment I can't be arsed with it :giggle:

The only issue my car had was fuel, it swigs it!!!!  I used a full tank all in for the travel there and back plus the track time, had a few minor slides and one spin onto the grass, it was like ploughing and a huge furrow was left in the soft grass

I did a full tank to get there do some laps and then had to use my Jerry Can full (20 litres) to get home on

Immense day and glad my car held up well this time apart from slight limp mode issue only 15 mins from the end. The mongrel is going well at the moment.

Looks like fun, is that new track surface on the hairpin and on druids?

Yes, druids was very grippy

Not according to the white BMW driver who red flagged the session just before lunch! Car was surprisingly ok after it was pulled out of the tyre wall. Only iPhone pic . Edit. BTW Don't think he knocked the tree over that must of been the windy weather we've had lol!

My hands were far too cold to take many pics with my phone but caught Jason at Druids.

I bought a small bullet camera before going to Oulton Park, it got mounted under the rear bumper of the Golf facing backwards, I have to say it is a simple robust piece of kit but I need to know how to make the microphone perform better in the highly turbulent environment outside the car.

Here is a clip from it, a Porsche Boxster chasing me down and then from nowhere comes a silver bullet! Is it a bird, is it a plane no it is the Mongrel!

COOL video! ^^^^^

That was about as good as the car felt all day.  As it had dried out a fair amount and the tyres were nice and warm.

I just need to see if the sound can be improved on that little bullet cam, then we would have the V6 howl and the whoosh as Mongrel goes past

like the vids james :) your car will be awesome with the turbo on! how did the tyres perform ?!

  • Author

Tyres were spot on Sharky, even on a wet track they gave good grip and when they did slide they did it very gradually so good feel.

As for the Turbo I am having second thoughts, I think will upset the balance the car has, I investigating cams, exhaust/de cat, head porting and mapping to see if another 30-50 bhp is achievable, will be enough just to give it a little more on the straight, may also consider nitrous...

what you said, but leaving out the nitrous (engine breaker?!) could be a good comprimise for reliability :)
