Roomster creaking suspension

Featured Replies

My Roomster has developed a terrible loud creaking which sounds as if it is coming from somewhere under the rear offside seat. I imagine this damage was caused by my not slowing down to less than 10mph for the many speed humps in our area.

The creaking is really quite alarming. My mechanic initially advised me not to drive it, however he and a couple of colleagues spent several hours investigating and couldn't find the cause. It occurs mainly when the car is cold (or when the weather is cold? - one slightly warmer day I drove it without hearing any noise at all) - which made him think it was some rubber washers(?) Inside the sealed suspension unit.

Any thoughts on what it might be please? I want to get it fixed but don't want to be at the mercy of a larger garage which might replace expensive parts without properly identifying the problem. I am not happy either driving or selling it in its current state.

Open the doors and stand on each of the door sills in turn and rock the car. The nearest suspension to the sill than makes the noise is the culprit. Could be the main rear beam pivot bush which is under the rear doors.
