Decatting petrol pickup

Featured Replies

I know it's 1992 for petrol cars, but am I right in thinking cats aren't a test item on petrol commercials manufactured pre-2002?

A Felicia pick up will be a MOT class IV, the same as a car and will be subject to the same emissions check.  Even if it passed the emissions check a cat that was fitted as standard which is missing is a fail in its own right.

Are local MOT guys so easy to cheat? Or you had to bribe them?

I think he's saying he put a cat back on for the MOT. Its integral to the downpipe on the 1.6.

it would fail the mot test with no cat fitted, theres no way in a million years it would have a low enough co emission without a cat, plus also as mr fordfan says, its an automatic fail if its not fitted anyhow.. i cant see what is to gain by removing it either?

Just doing my bit for the planet, trees like Carbon Dioxide ;)

Realistically, my current cat is probably full of oil, I don't like spending money, and I've got the wrong backbox, but I've got enough bits kicking about to make a "new" exhaust.

That and I'm peicing together an AEE with a bit more go, seems a shame so lose ponies by sticking a cat on it.

Depends, I know a fair few who wouldn't care, but I like keeping somewhere on the right side of the line when there's no reason not to.

I'm not, of it doesn't meet the test standard I'll fail it, as my boss and work colleagues have found out.

Cats produce Carbon Dioxide when they work, without a cat there'll be less Carbon Dioxide emitted but more nasty stuff.

I think he mentioned he welded a 'hollow' cat (aka just for looks to fool MOT guys) and if you are familiar with his previous posts, it's his habit to mount quasi-legal parts prior MOT just to pass, then took out or replace parts he doesn't like regardless local laws hoping in case he will be stopped in traffic by a police officer to 'sweeten' him up. But then again, as usual it's everybody's guess what that guy is 'writing'.

ON some engines they require an   amount of back pressure .  i found out that if you remove back pressure  it revs  faster but  you lost torque  as i did some playing down santapod in my Mazda  demio which is a 1500cc single cam 16 valve , so the cat stayed in ,

the back box is a good  thing to change  and now every one is hot on emissions  i would leave it in any way   or get a sports cat ,
