Help me find a Volvo V70

Featured Replies

I sold my Octavia last week to finance work on my house. It's weird not owning a car, especially after having had one you loved so much.

Anyway, we've got a Yeti arriving late March, but that's mainly going to be driven by my wife. I'd still like to have a cheap car to run about in and what fits my needs is a petrol Volvo V70.

Specifically it needs to be a very early Mk2 on an X or Y plate so the tax isn't extortionate. It needs to be a 2.3 T5 (250HP) or a 2.4 170HP or a 2.4T (200HP). I guess I'd consider a later one if it had plenty of tax on it. I'd prefer a manual as the fuel economy is shocking on the autos.

There just aren't enough of them about. I went to see one the other day that seemed reasonable but it looked like the head gasket had gone.

It needs to be less than 100 miles away from Sheffield, unless it's really exceptional. At this sort of age and price range it's so likely that you'll have to walk away, it's just not worth travelling too far imo, especially with as little free time as I've go.

If you could keep your eye out for me, that'd be great. :)

Nick i have Seen a T5 bedfordshire way immaculate FSH 76k Miles think it was on either a 01 Or 03 plate up for £4,495 maybe a Bit to far for you.Or if you've got 13k spare they also had a stunning R aswell 30 odd thousand miles that was on a 03 plate i was drooling, happy shopping.

Cheers. Might take a look at that. I didn't realise until today how agreeable the D5 engine sounds.

Oh HELL yes

Why has it take me this long to realise just how awesome Volvos are? Turbos, 5 cylinders, sleeper looks. So much win for so little money.

This is my current V70 I've got on long term loan...

... It's got a spoiler and everything!

Also, I got a parking ticket ages ago in it and they interpreted the I in the reg plate as a 1 on the ticket (printed on a handheld terminal) and I've not heard anything more about it. Bonus.

How about a classic Amazon estate, the only Volvo I like.

Amazons are lovely but they're a bit too old for me to care for properly I think. Boxy Volvos for me at the moment.

I had a couple of T5s a few years ago a 1998 V70 se spec with 17 inch comets and then a 1999 C70 T5.

They are great but not as fast as you would expect and they have the turning circle of a super tanker

Check the owners clubs for the best ones. Don't worry too much about low mileage they can do big miles.

I also found that Volvo were the cheapest for insurance as well.

That video above is awesome! :) Love an old Volvo.

You tried looking of www.volvoforums.org.uk - attached to Volvo Owners Club but anyone can sign up. Great bunch of people and there's always stuff for sale there.

Truly the volvo equivilent of Brisoka :)

Yeah, I need to join a couple of the forums. £200 to insure one fully comp, protected ncb with M&S for me and the Mrs. Not bad at all.

I had a run out V70 phase 1 2.4 with the 140 lump. It cost me £1200 a fair few years back and I traded it in for £1000 even needing carrier hubs. It had pretty much all the toys, being a run out model and the engine note was great when you hoofed it.

I loved it, it was scruffy and I managed to shoehorn a double mattress and a 6 foot fridge freezer in at the same time.

It was my last Volvo of 4 or so and the only thing that put me off getting a newer one is the ridiculous cost of Volvo Diagnostics which seem to be Main Dealer or nothing.

The T5 is thirsty and not all that fast although you can get them tuned up easily enough.

I am on the Volvo forum (not vey often) and you do get well cared for cars and plenty of good advice.

Nick if this is of any interest let me know. It's my mates car so I can put you in touch direct and you can get honest answers to any questions rather than buying blind from anyone else:

I've had a 240, 740 and S40. The 240 GLT Estate was my favourite and the turning circle on that was like a London cab, amazing for the size of the car.

Old Volvos are quite fashionable at the moment.

Does anyone remember that butchered (in a good way) old Volvo that turned up at one of the Shark open days? I really wanted to buy that but no idea who modded it or owned it.

Mate, that looks great. Why's he getting rid? Might go and take a look tomorrow if he's available.

He's got another Volvo on the way and he has a Scooby and a mega power Supra. He just doesn't have the room. He's a proper car nut

Thats a really tidy looking volvo,no way does it look like one thats done 186k.

I was going to get a S70 T5 a while back, still mite in the future

So after looking at a couple, I've decided to stick with the known quantity that is the red one I've got. It only really needs a throttle body refurb and a lambda sensor to make it perfect, whereas at the prices I'm looking at, a replacement could be a potential money pit.

Hmmm, seeing this had made me think about a V70 with 7 seats.....
