Nokian D3 or the A3 as a winter tyre

Featured Replies

Hi

I am trying to decide whether to go for the Nokian D3 or the A3 as a winter tyre. There doesn't seem to be a great deal of difference between them apart from it suggests that the A3 is more for sporty driving and the D3 economy. The A3 seems to get slightly better reviews? They will be on a 1.9 estate. Any thoughts?

Many thanks

Got the D3's on mine. Very happy with them. Good MPG and very quiet.

Does not help, same comment as above but I went for A3.

Mostly because there on a VRS and they see a fair bit of 'sporty' driving.

Is there a price difference? As both will be more than capable.

A video from Nokian seemed to suggest A3 were better at high speed, no idea if they mean 70mph or more.

I think A3 are available in larger sizes than the D3.

A3's are available with a V speed rating. I don't think the D3's are

I've got 225/40/18 V A3s on mine currently

The D3 are more like the old WR and are directional.

The A3 are more like the old WR-G2 and are asymetric.

Over the years I have had the WR, then the WR G2, then the WR-A3 and am on another set of WR-A3.

Having had a puncture on an Icy road with the WR, it's very odd driving with one tyre on backwards (Spare can't do both sides) until you can get to anywhere that will swap it the right way for you.

On that basis I went for the Asymetric tread pattern when it came down to A3 or D3.

I'd say you have to look at what you're doing, where you're going and what's most important to you
