Get your beads out

Featured Replies

It's always nice to see good beading shots (especially with the DSLR Steve) and some of them could even warrant being in the photography section.

However, as they've been posted on this thread, it might just help others in the future to know what LSP has been used.

Just IMHO.

Thanks for the comment Johnboy; especially on the photography.  ;)

As with all forums - good to see everyone voicing their opinion.

I prefer to stick with the OP's idea - "Just for fun".... that's all it is really

Listing products is always helpful, but it does not make the post pointless if they aren't. I value all contributions personally.

Exactly right Tom

Products of this nature will bead water..some better than others

Its a nice way of showing off the properties of a product

Therefore it surely must be matched to a product in particular

The funny thing is, beading is counter productive, causing water marks and whatever contamination is within those beads to sit on the paint when it dries so the car looks dirty. It shows that the paint is being protected though which is why we like it and also looks ace.

Hudrophylic would be the ideal property in a product but there would be little indication of when it is starting to diminish. And the only recipe known to man included unocorn hair and troll snot.

Agree, sheeting water of the bodywork is the main aim. Suppose it doesn't make good pictures though. Video uploads required, lol.

Ooh very nice.

I find it strange that if you apply a flow of water to a treated vehicle, it will often sheet straight off. Yet if it's rainfall or a light spray from a hose or spray bottle, it'll tend to bead :)

As Tom said earlier, it must be something to do with surface tension on the panel. Maybe that if the liquid hits the panel in small enough quantities, then surface tension will hold the liquid there, in individual beads? Something like that anyway!

Quite an interesting read on this link I found a year or so ago.

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contact_angle

It's a little heavy going. Surface tension plays a part as well as other factors. The greater the contact angle, the less water it can hold and in theory it should run off better/earlier.

Some great pictures on this thread now. Must get some of mine up when I can get round to giving the Superb a proper going over!

Equally nippy out but not so furry...

Great pics there Neil - loving Angelwax Desirable

Thanks Chris. It has certainly raised the bar as far as top ups go. Other companies have started to catch on with the idea now. I wouldn't mind trying the Sonax turbo detailer (which is supposed to be less grabby) or Menzerna Endless Shine. I do like scholl SW40 for the summer months on the black focus though.

Thanks bud. Must admit, it has changed my perspective on waxes. For the past 8 years or so I've been focusing on the polishing and prep aspect of detailing while having a bit of a venture into the sealant world. Now that I'm happy with my abilities with my rotary and polish selection I'm happy to delve into the lsp world a little more. Just wish they weren't so expensive with so much choice. Thats why it's great to be able to ask you guys on here what your thoughts are.

Beading on my Clio 182 lol
