Hi and need help

Featured Replies

Hi

I currently own a honda civic Jordan but now want to have a change as I have always liked fabiasand onlu just looked in to them everything  I have looked at so far is good
Cheap Insurance
Good mpg
Can look really nice with a few modifications

Now the only bad thing I have been told bout them is the turbo like to snap a shaft at around 100k
But what are they like for reliability will fuel pumps and injectors and things like that

If I do buy one was just thinking a decat exhaust system air filter intercooler and a remap (if over a 100k then a new turbo what sort of bhp and fpot would I see from them bits and what would be the best parts to buy for it

If anyone has any info that would be great as I don't know much about theses

Thank

Mine was over 116k when I got it and is still going strong, no problems what so ever

I personally haven't heard of the shafts going over 100k but the kkk turbos can go at any time luck of the draw really

With the mods you've listed you'll be looking at 180bhp dependant on the map I'd say :)

agree there, haven't heard of these faults and I'm on my second one! (through choice) the turbo will go quicker if the car hasn't been looked after! try and get one with good service history and make the time to service it and look after it, (no booting when it's cold and let it cool before switching off) an you will be very surprised!

p.s my new one I bought at 130K on original turbo and still pulls like a train!

It could go at 60k or 160k. Just check there's no blue smoke / siren noises under load :) the pd130 engine is used in loads of cars so it's not hard to find parts for them. They're renowned for racking up big milages with relatively few issues. As said just check it's got good history and the correct oil has been used.

I had an ek4 vti a couple of years ago. In a straight line the vRS will be quicker. But it is no match round a corner and you will miss the noise of the Honda.

Yours also has far less to go wrong.

Unless your doing big mileage I'd keep the Jordan :) they're an appreciating classic.

same as the above comment I haven't heard of a shaft snapping.

ive got one 54 plate owned it for  6months its got a green cotton filter, catback and a remap and dyno'd at 175bhp

fuel wise its not bad £20 gets me just under 200 miles, no faults since ive owned it just had it serviced that's it.

ive also got a hybrid tuned 04 plate has covered 170k has the following:

pd150 hybrid turbo

decat

6 peddle clutch with solid flywheel

focus rs intercooler

audi tt 312mm brakes

cupra r rear brakes

stage 1 map

cars around 200+bhp

drives mint pulls quicker then 270 - 300 bhp cars ive owned in the past, use it everyday no issues £20 gets me around 160miles

If you really want to go the 10 yards then

gtb2260vk Turbo, With some type of twin pass FMIC (delete the EGR when piping in the new intercooler)

The PD 160 intake pipe mod and just stick with the panel filter, KnN or Pipe crossover take your pick.

Milltek Sports Cat Exhaust

You will need to look into a big brake kit once you break that 200BHP mark with the parts above listed, safe to say you could push the above set up to 240BHP with a stage 2 map.

After that if you want to get that engine pushed to its max limits of say 300 to 350 (been the most I have ever heard of anyone pushing a Vrs up to) you will need to start looking at the injectors, stage 3 or custom mapping, by which point your suspension and I mean everything about the suspension  bushes, top mounts drop links etc, not just the dampers, will want a complete work over, cos its safe to say the suspension sucks even on a plain stage 1 remap up to around 180BHP (although here you maybe happy with just new uprated bushes), never mind breaking the ton benchmarks, you would probably need to take a look at some transmission mod improvements at this point also, not sure what exactly since I have not looked since I have no intention personally of breaking the 250 mark.

The Dream would be all the above, with some type of custom racing injectors, some type of Brembo big brake kit, Bilstein B12, B14 or B16 suspention kit (depending on whatever your budget say), all new bushes Powerfelx been the only optimal choice to investigate here, then go see Shark Performance and see what they can do for you in terms of a remap.

And ffs dont do anything gay like wheel spaces or different size wheels, different wheels fine whatever your taste, but make sure there the same size 16"

Just to illustrate the full potential of the Vrs, obviously take what you will out along the way as to what you want to spend, but I would seriously strike a balance between power upgrades and handling especially the brakes even if its just a decent set of vented disks with high quality pads and some selected upgraded bushes.

I'm on my second Vrs. I came from a supercharged type r and like yourself wanted the good mpg. Mine is on original turbo (as far as I'm aware from service history) and is on 94k miles. I haven't suffered any problems so far touch wood. Turbo still pulls strong and clutch is still decent.

Look out for a Vrs that has good service history (regular oil changes etc) and has had the Cambelt done recently.

Thanks guys all great info

I am a mechanic so all the servicing and work will be done by me so that's not a problem

I think I will go for the Tt front brake set up jut for that extra braking

I will change all the bushes and ball joints as I always end up changing everything just for peace of mind lol

So think I will go with

A k&n panel filter

Pd160 intake pipe

Egr delete

Front mount inter cooler

Decat

Good exhaust system

On the mapping side of thing I have got amd about 5mins away so would they be good to use

When it comes to the turbo if I'm going to change it is there and sort of hybrid turbo I can use as if it's coming off might as well put a better one back on lol any help on this would be great

So if I go with all this could I make anywhere near the 230/240 bhp mark

I will be sticking with the standard wheels just painted black for the time being but don't worry I would be putting and big gay 19" on it lol

message xman750 about getting turbos, spoke to him myself this evening and he seams pretty genuine and very knowledgeable! and the prices were much better than I thought they would be!

PS I wouldn't put anything bigger than 16 or 17" wheels on, looks pretty daft unless you get the tyres right.

I just got my self a set of 17" samurai's but not sure what the offset of them is yet! :-/ might have to stick to some black originals myself! lol

K&N is your first REALLY BIG mistake, it will do nothing except adversly affect the reliability of your MAF and your turbo.

PD160 is a minor mistake since it does nothing at all except lighten your wallet.

EGR delete is also pointless since it also does nothing, if you're a mechanic you can easily do the elephant mod yourself and clean up your already dirty plenum.

FMIC is good if you fit a good one, a cheap one may lose you power. Add the money you save by not fitting all this other crap to what you were going to spend on an intercooler and buy a really good intercooler.

Decat again does nothing.

A good exhaust system is what the car will come with as standard, anything else you fit will do nothing except make more noise.

An AMD remap is an excellent idea.

Two out of seven ain't bad I suppose, many people just make do with a decent 'soft' remap because the standard clutch can struggle to hold the torque of an aggressive map.

ok so about the airfilter waht would be the best one to go for

i ill forget about the pd160 inlet  lol

Standard filter

If you insist on getting rid of the perfectly good and unrestrictive standard airbox and filter then a Honda S2000 standard filter will fit in its place but you'll need to fabricate a decent cold air feed or again you'll lose power.

Most 'modding' on these engines just lose power or make them less reliable. It's a turbodiesel, you're a mechanic you should know from college that they work completely differently, 'must have' mods on N/A petrols are pointless on the VRS.

big gey 19's won't fit. HTH :)

rigth i bought a fabia today 54 black fabia vrs with full skoda service history and only 82000miles and it drives like a dream i love it lol

Get it remapped and concentrate on improving the handling and brakes. Job done.

Amen

312mm Brakes

Polybushes/Cupra Solid bushes

Good suspension

Decent remap.

Will make a nice usable car. :)

I echo the above.

Going any further and that you may aswell just buy a faster car to start with in my opinion.
