I think that flashing your lights in the manner stated is very excessive and sometimes actions such as this can cause serious problems on the roads. If there is someone doing something silly on the roads, do not rise to the bait. The best drivers do not react, that causes rage, NOT recommended at all. Innocent people usually get roped into that.

Would it work by making the standard of driving higher? Maybe increasing the test in quality, and retesting people over 65 every two years?

You may be right with what you are saying. there are too many people on the roads today. There are many people on the roads that din't even take a test (60+ there was a time when you didnt have to take a test).

You always see see old couple driving 20mph in a 30mph zone it annoys me to hell especially on the way to work ..as if it's not bad enough already.

What I was stating that if we increase legal driving age to 21, the 17yrs old that pass thier test wont be on the road.

17 yr old's on the road :

1. cars are old and unsafe(not thier fault but geneally older cars are so unsafe)

2. Have not fully matured yet and act like d i c k h e a d s on the roads showing off to there mates.

3. couldn't care less about others.

imo that is!

therefore we will have a increased percentage of people on public transport which in the long term would increase the quality of it, especially if 60yrs old + have to retake thier tests as alot will not pass. Hopefully this could reduce number on the raod and we wont have the increasing problems on the road with congestion.

rant over :D

Maybe we should raise the driving age to 25 as that's when the insurance companies seem to perceive that people become safer drivers? ;)

Chris

yes why not. but then again it also goes on experience. So if you started driving at 25 then you have none and therefore will have R I S K tatood on your forhead for another 5 years.

People take driving for granted and don't understand the power they have. If we make it wore difficult to get up and driving without high costs involved then people will learn that been able to drive is a special thing that we can do and won't act silly on the roads. Maybe inforce ban for life if found drinking and driving. heavier penalties for breaking the law while driving! They will never do it again if they are smart.

IMO

One or two quick flashed is fine by me.

heavier penalties for breaking the law while driving!

They've already started that with speeding and look at the response it's got!

Chris

I encountered two people going far too slowly in lane 3 (and lane 2 was empty) while driving on the M4 to London back before XMas... a huge queue, in fact, built up behind me as I was directly behind the **** in a BMW estate who was drifting along in his own little world, and ignored my flashing him. He also ignored the MG Roadster who got fed up and did a very swift undertaking of him, so I'll just conclude he was indeed a ****.

I hate to have to do it, or what they must think of me, but I'd sooner flash than undertake.

Chris

what response? not sure i know what you mean?

answer is don't speed! is it not?

people like moaning for the sake of it. a rules a rule and the people of this country can't do much about it.

any way my opninon on this thread is this:

don't flash ....and don't flash your lights! people should set off early to avoid been late by traffic and slow moving vehicles instead of being in a rush and soo in patient that they have to flash someone to move out of the way.:thumbdwn:

The initial post was not about being in a rush exactly - though I must admit was being impatient with the slower driver!

It's more about eejits who hog the outside lane doing less than the speed limit when they should move over and get out of the way!

As Rob says, if you're driving in the middle/outside lane, when the inner lanes are clear, then expect to be flashed to let you know that there are cars who would like to get passed without having to undertake. It needn't be aggressive and it's nothing about being in a hurry - it's about consideration for other people, something which seems to be severely lacking these days!
