looking to buy - Octavia VRS

Featured Replies

Hello guys,

I have unfortunately just had someone idiotically write off my previous car so am looking for something new

I have around 8500

I am looking for something for a family but also fun so thinking of a VRS Octavia. Petrol I think but no preference, the problem I am having is finding one in my area (essex) I assume I won't be able to gwt a facelift version for that price.

Also, any tips, I've been told if I go diesel to get the CR engine and not the older. So help a new guy out?

£8500 will get you a very nice pre facelift petrol vrs,you may find a higher mileage facelift petrol model, mine is a 58 plate petrol vrs & ive had it 3.5 years now & love it,its a great car.

Thanks, ive been looking online online but there doesnt seem to be too many around, im looking for a hatchback not an estate. Tbh I think a nice pre facelift is better than a high mileage post.

Cheers for the advice, anything to look out for. I kmow I need to make sure if it is plus 60k mileage to check the cam belts been changed

Timing belts are every 4 years, check the rear tyres for wear on the inside edges & a noise like a wheel bearing on the road test,it may need a 4 wheel alignment, other than that id just check for full service history & condition of the car etc. There has been a issue with the timing chain tensioners failing on the early facelift cars & for this reason id rather have a late low mileage pre facelift than a higher mileage facelift. Welcome to the forum by the way.

Cheers Mikey,

I thought the timing belt was 4years/60k whichever is sooner.

Sounds like a plan with the Pre facelift model (although I have to say the post facelift is absolutely beautiful)

Just saw this one and looks too much of a bargin.

Price seems about normal to me,must be cheaper due to the colour....... . only kidding!

Yeah, I'd prefer the racing blue, Really can't find too many though, seem rather scares if I am honest.

Are VRS's always so hard to find or am I just picky?

2 a penny, when I was looking.

Could be tricky to source a decent low mileage CR at that price point, so your probably best with a petrol.

I've just joined on here, though so not exactly a voice of experience!

What about a non vRS model (The PD 140 is a good engine as is the 1.9 PD105) and then some choice mods?

If it helps...I just picked up a 57 reg PD170 MKII with 90k on the clock. In racing blue. £5k. Albeit, I had to go to Southampton to pick it up....

Getting rid of my VRS soon, not exactly what you spec, PM me if you want to?

Cheers, I am not really a fan of the estate (going by your profile, thats what you've got)

Plus I only have about a week to source it.

Is the PD version really as bad compared to the CR as I have heard or are they actually very good engines?

Okay, found a couple I like at the moment

I know there is a performance difference between the petrol and diesel but how noticeable is it really?

Also found this one.

Id get the higher milage car from the main dealer, and youl get it cheaper still without px,and in the colour of your prefrence

Yeah. Thanks I thought of that too "BUT" it is a bit too far away for me to go test drive and the Cam belt hasn't been changed yet so bit wary tbh.

i bought a 57 plate low mileage (41k) VRs petrol in racing blue last September, I'm near Paisley and had to go to Liverpool to get it, I couldn't find a decent one in the colour I wanted in Scotland.....

Low mileage, belts and water pump done, full MOT, service, 1 owner, etc etc....great car!

Bought a PD as that was all I could afford at the time. No problems at all. She might be a agricultural but she copes with everything I throw at her and more. I got lucky with mine as it was a local garage that had it for sale. But, i had been looking for a while to find a deent one. Good hunting!

The problem with the PD170 is the DPF and potentially the injectors.

Hence my suggestion to look at an elegance, PD140, then add something like 312mm front brakes, B12 suspension.

Much wider choice.

If its at a main dealer just make them aware you expect the cambelt to be changed if it is due (or nearly due).

The limited edition you posted a link to there looks good. Advert states it has a full skoda service history, certainly worth a look?

I am hoping to take a drive to test that limited edition (which has stated it included belt change) and another one

Drove one from my list in my previous post today, a CR Diesel but it didn't have half the features they listed and wouldn't budge on 8995 (which is WAY to high)

Funny thing is, I use to live in Scotland and just found a Petrol for sale in South Glasgow.

Yeah, the problem is I am looking for something slightly sporty and fun, the case of having got kids I need something bigger but want something sporty/fun to run.

I think that limited edition will have the TSI engine fitted so no timing belt fitted it is a chain(same engine as fitted to the facelifts).

It's a FSI Engine according to parkers and according to the garage the limited edition does need the timing belt changed,

He's offered 8,200 including a belt change. I am tempted to go down and have a look at it.

Id double check if i was you, every limited edition ive seen has the TSI engine as they have the facelifted climate control & the bigger facelift door mirrors, can you get a picture of the engine bay for us to look at,im sure another limited edition owner will be able to confirm yes or no. The limited editions are really nice, the seats are ace just a shame the wheels are not very strong.
