vRS real MPG

Featured Replies

I am of the belief that if you can achieve a modest 30-35 mpg with a TSi vRS doing everyday normal driving, then you're doing well.

Thought the mk3 was supposed to be more economical? I average about 37mpg over a tank in my mk2 tsi. Best I've had was 41mpg over a full tank sitting at 70. Majority of my driving is motorway and country roads. Oh and my car is remapped and I have roof bars on all the time as well.

If you're lucky enough to have a route that involves that sort of thing, then there's no real reason why you shouldn't. I'm not so lucky and I have to put up with the dumb mums who drive Chelsea Tractors to 4 different schools, plus the local geriatrics, and I "must not do even 1 mph over the limit" brigade & the delights of Guildford gyratory system & such like.

I would say, for most people 30-33 mpg is perfectly achievable. Not that I have the TSi, but its what I realistically expected to get if I had held out for my original order.

I get 20-24 mpg in medium/heavy city traffic and short trips (3 miles at 15 mph average) and my best was 37 mpg at legal limits (country road + motorway). At a constant 85 mph with ACC (legal on the motorway) I get about 33 mpg. With my driving I'm still way off the official 45 mpg. :)

Nobody will obtain official figures unless they drive one-up within a completely unloaded car, with an almost empty fuel tank, on flat terrain and within a country without any other cars. Even then you would need to drive in an extremely restrained manner to emulate the simulated EU test criteria.

In my opinion and experience the TSI performs as follows.

*23-27mpg is likely if you drive almost entirely around town.

*27-33mpg is likely for mixed driving (most people).

*33-40mpg is probable for motorway mile munchers.

*40+mpg is possible if you deliberately chase fuel economy on quiet motorways and A-roads.

*15-20mpg is easy if you boot it.

I now have 9k on my mk3 Vrs tsi and in all honesty the economy improves with every 1k. I now average per tank about 36-38mpg and that's progressive driving in the fast lane on A and B roads. If I get onto a motorway and sit at speed limit this easily goes over 40 mpg. Absolute peach of an engine. Had a friend in it yesterday who has the golf gtd and he is kicking himself he didn't go for the gti. I also drive the 150 4*4 mk 3 octavia in work which struggles to match the mpg I get in the Vrs. Don't know about the Vrs TDI but the 150 is has very short gearing

Just been driving my tsi just under a week and covered around 1200 miles already.

So pleased I went for the petrol my long term average is just shy of 38mpg with mixed town/motorway driving.

I can get over 40mpg on the motorway very easily, I even got it to 45 on Saturday on a run from tesco in leatherhead to Shrewsbury.

Can't believe how good the engine is and hoping it improves over time.

OK, I'll be blunt I detest TOWNIES, WOMEN Drivers (Been hit 3 times by 3 tarts who've had no insurance), Electric MIlk floats, WVM, Kids, Londoners (Anyone in the fishpond, that's the area encompassed by the M25).

I do like most folk from Hampshire & most points West of.

Skovirg, I ain't looking for an argument but, I like anybody whom speaks their mind, whether I agree with the content or not.

I'd never argue with you.  I like your posts.  They are funny, rather helpful and hey, sometimes they are even right ;-)

I also like folks who speak their mind so long as they're not to55ers, stupid people who can not communicate or haters of everything that this glorious world has to offer.

Unfounded bitterness and resentment towards others are commonly linked to low self-esteem and feelings of personal inadequacy. Murders, wars and even referendums have been fueled by such nonsense.

Well said. Some people must live a pretty miserable existence whilst they cultivate ulcers and increase their blood pressure because they feel superior to everyone else.

Oops, just noticed the thread:

mid to high 40s driven well but with traffic

high 40s to low 50s mixture of A and B roads,some traffic

mid 50s a good run on A roads/motorways with almost constant 70mph speeds.

58 is the absolute maximum reading I've had on an empty motorway with cruise set at 70

This is based on a VRS Tdi with 6000 miles

Oh it must be so nice for you to live in your utopian world, where everything & everyone is nice and perfect.

You must be looking through a pair of these.

Hmmm wasn't that John Lennon's last view too, not sure it was all the lenses in his case, may have been something/substance going on behind the eyes.

The Wanderer can be forgiven for any extreme views - through having to drive in Guildford.  There really is nowhere in the country quite like Guildford to drive in, with its combination of steep streets, one-way systems that don't work, and a way-above-average proportion of men with hats driving Vauxhalls and ladies of 80-in-the-shade driving small Japanese cars trying to do hill starts.

Yesterday met with one of the most obnoxious ones yet.

He met me head on & stopped with inches to spare, coming in the EXIT (Clearly marked NO ENTRY with writing on the road & TWO no entry signs).

Typical ****** Banker & Royal Grammar School type with a darn great Porsche Cayenne 4x4, and I asked him if he could feckin well read, told him he could easily get a £100 ticket + 6 pts. Gave me a complete load of BS about catching a train in 5 minutes, so I delayed him so he missed it for his troubles, he said only £100, so what! I then told him that I thought he was a complete Tampon.

When he asked what I meant, I said think about it & drove over towards the other car park at which point the penny finally dropped.

Typical Surrey anus hole, who has obviously more money than sense, a super inflated ego, which I partially deflated for him, I then gave the clamping company a call, as he didn't buy a ticket & shopped him to the plod.

I hope the anus, enjoyed the £80 ticket & £125 clamping fee.

Yesterdays lesson was Never feck me off.

Yes Guildford, the highest percentage of millionaries per head anywhere in the country, they do all have this "don't you know whom I am" look on their face, which has lead me to develop a "No and I don't Fn care either" look

Still, SWMBO works high up at Mount Browne so, I've got an effective anti-knob solution on speed-dial, try not to use it but, some Tommy Tuckers just don't get the message any other way.

Why would you live anywhere if you disliked the residents so much? I'd move to somewhere more agreeable.

Because:

1/ I can't afford to move away, it's only 5-7 miles (depending on route) from home to work or 15' train ride.

2/ My old man is in remission from cancer, don't want to be too far away in case it returns.

I used to do 100 miles a day commute (10 years ago) at a depot where I was exceptionally happy, but the travelling costs were killing me financially then the cancer struck, so I managed to do a swap with someone to return to my old haunts, unfortunately I have to deal with the most obnoxious, supercilious oinks in the UK.

I seriously miss the folks of the South Coast & around Winchester and beyond. Now you may say Winchester is very like Guildford, but the major difference is the people there are a darn sight nicer & more pleasant than whatever Surrey lot are and when things go "pear shaped" they don't throw their toys out of their pram, like the spoilt brats of Guildford & upward towards London do.

No, mine saves the uniforms for bedtime. :giggle:

Only you can work out the pros and cons I guess, but from here it doesn't seem to be doing you any good.

Being a millionaire is so last century, and a title that is afforded one in ten UK home owners. Billionaire is where it is at these days and for that you need Belgravia and Chelsea. Kensington Palace Gardens has one of the (if not the) highest concentration of Billionaires on the planet.

Nope but, even the thought of secondary cancer in a loved one AIN'T good either

Good luck to you and your Dad Wanderer
