My vRS OEM Xenon's are getting dim. Any ideas?

Featured Replies

Hello again guys,

My '04 Fabia vRS Mark 1 is still going strong and eating up the miles at 204,000miles and counting.

Has anyone got any suggestions however, about how I can improve the brightness of my factory-fit Xenon headlights please?

For instance, do they have something like a bulb that I can replace?

I clean them and the headlight washers work just fine too, but that appears to not to make any difference.

I swear that they are dimmer now than they used to be.

Thanks in advance.

PS: Maybe I shouldn't wear my sunglasses at night?  B)

The D2S bulbs do age over time, the colour temperature goes up, leading to a whiter light....

They aren't cheap. Especially if you buy reputable - Philips - bulbs.

Also, the headlight glass can become abraded and cloudy over time. Several threads show the problem and what can be achieved.

Whiter light emits more colout.

I was lead the believe they got bluer

Anyways they will be the original bulbs still in if! New bulb time :)

Marvellous, Ta.  I actually have run Skoda's own Headlamp covers ever since I picked-up the car, so I'll look at both layers.

The perfect white light is 4300K.  I've not actually heard of them dimming but I have heard of cheap bulbs discolouring the glass.

The higher the Kelvin of the bulbs, the worst the light output is over 4300K.

I just got myself some Depo Xenons for £40.  I'll be putting philips bulbs in them.

OK Thanks.  And if you find bulbs that are cheap(er) I'd appreciate knowing. Expensive!  :whew:

Oh la la.

Although I'd prefer to not have to buy them at that sort-of price (very expensive), the OSRAM XENARC NIGHTBREAKER ones would appear to be mid-range.

Does anyone have any experience of this particular bulb - or have any other views about the others on the list that seanw has kindly supplied.

Thanks again, I am not used to asking questions about cars as this one is so damn good, I've not needed to worry about it nor get it touched by a spanner (other than routine servicing, of course).

Wayne.

Yes I've had nightbreakers as well.  Decent bulb too. Good value.

I personally think you're just as well going for one of the Philips bulbs (the £49.95 ones). They are the same wattage and colour temperature as all the others.

Hi,

I had a problem with SWMBO's Punto - while not a skoda, it does have xenon projectors.

We found the cause to be the bowls (silver back bit) of the projector lights to have corrosion and hazing, they almost looked burnt.

I had to replace the projector bits  - as I used to own a punto the same I had a couple of spares laying about (as you do) so not a problem.

This is what the insides looked like...

Holy guacamole!  That's unfortunate  :S

Fortunately for me, mine aren't anything like that.  Shocking!

Glad you got it sorted, though.

How does £99.97 sound for a pair of Osram 66240XNB-HCB Night Breaker Unlimited?
