What can you guys recommend, just basic requirements, Gaming and internet via wireless or LAN. Any good deals on at the moment.

http://www.silicon-group.co.uk/ are doing a good deal on a motherboard bundle, the one on the front page. get yourself a case, gfx card and drives and you got a great all rounder for much cheapness.OS wont be a problem either. plus they are based in alloa too, so you can pick it up.

Ive got a Nvidia 5600 gfx card lying about too if you like, i just upgraded to a 6800 ultra.

I suppose it all depends if you want to build your own or not tho. i much prefer to build mine.

If you need a hand give me a shout

i just built my own, first one and i have been using a pc for about 3 years(numpty class)

asus a8v deluxe motherboard

amd 64 bit 3200 cpu

200 gig maxtor hd(another to follow)

radean 9700 pro(with added fan)agp graphics card(25 quid second hand off a mate)

pioneer dvd driver/recorder etc etc

case: thermaltake tsunami dream clear side with nice gay blue neons.

logitech x510 optical mouse

had to get afew mates to help(that'll be half of cupra net then ) ,but very staisfying to know its yours.cost under 500 notes and should see me right for a few years yet.

things to follow are printer scanner copier all in one and a nice 19 inch tft screen

should be a good spec for under 7-800 quid.

also good if you're on a budget,i was buying a bit each month as i could afford it

Any idea of budget?

From what you've said, a decent "games" machine will be what drives the cost up. Pretty much the cheapest of boxes will be fine for internet browsing and word processing. It's the games side that requires more grunt from a graphics, processor and memory point of view.

Do you need a complete package with keyboard, mouse, speakers, screen? LCD or CRT?

Dell do some really cheap deals at the moment, but then you're buying a dell ;) As Jason said, if you want to build yourself, it's very satisfying once it's all up and running. I've been building my own PCs for years now and much prefer it. Plus, you only pay what you want. If you want a rock-bottom price, a pre-packaged bundle will be hard to beat, but if you want something that'll play games, I think you're better off building your own

Give us an idea of budget and we'll advise.

btw i built mine with gaming in mind, runs battlefield 2 like a dream(except the ingame voice plays up with ac97 sound driver, sorted now though)

Try Dell online, they have some good deals.

JD

the only thing i was warned of with dell,is the basic machines are fine, its when you start to ugrade it gets expensive.

and they're a bit dull looking too, black office type kit in your home, not my cup o char

See Adli are doing a base unit and 17"TFT for about 640 stg

If you intend building your own you can do no worse then ge tthe components from www.mrpccomputers.co.uk or www.aria.co.uk Mr PC also do some pretty cheap ready built systems.

Can recommend Evesham too. Customer Service is good

I built one of mine at Xmas time while I had a few weeks holiday, 3 months later I finished it once I replaced most of the items, oh yeah the hassle I had getting them replaced from ebuyer, cheap I agree, customer service nope :thumbdwn:

The deal in Aldi looks excellent, see the review in computeractive
