crashed :'(

Featured Replies

Today has possibly turned out to be a very expensive day.

I was taking my mate to b&q to get some jubilee clips to finish fixing his radiator. as we came off a roundabout we lost the back end of the car without warning, fishtailed and spun into the curb.

after a quick check to make sure all my bits and my mates bits were in the right places we limped the car home with a strong smell of burning and began the task of checking the damage.

luckily the rear axle is not damaged and I have some very nice chunks missing from both my passenger side wheels but the worst damage is I have managed to buckle the rear wheel bearing and the disk brake and pads are shot on the rear passenger side.

Sorry to hear that buddy. But at least you're both okay. I'm sure it's fixable but not what you need after Christmas :(

Sorry to hear.

Least ur bits still there :-)

Interestingly why u think u lost control?

If due to oil/fuel on road could the council be liable?

U claiming insurance?

not too sure why I lost control, a combination of factors change in camber as you come off the rounderbout, possibly oil/fuel grit/brine on the road as there is a motorway deppot on the roundabout, I know I was doing 30-35 so below the 40 limit but possibly still too fast for the greasy conditions.

not going to go through the insurance as it will probably cost me more in the longrun. Im glad I didnt hit any other cars as we ended up facing the wrong way on the central reservation.

im going to chalk it up as a learning experiance and take it easier in the future could have been a lot worse.

No worries.

Best to check the car overall too - just in case its something else...

will do, once the hubs changed.

I did jack the whole rear end up and gave it a good mooch underneath everything looks fine but I do susspect I may have bent the front passenger wishbone, my dad thinks I havent so ill get the hub sorted first and if it still doesnt drive right ill look at the front. and if it still isnt right then ill ask the garage to have a mooch.

just checked the speed limit on google maps it actualy changes to a 50 where I lost it so glad I wasnt going any faster  :whew: .

you wont know if the rear axles bent without getting a full wheel alignment .... it might not look bent but could be enough to chew tyres

Unlucky Red Fox, glad it wasn't a bad one.

Unlucky mate

Threads like this make me a lot more aware and take it easy while driving, I finish work at like 6am and the road conditions are terrible and there are loads of roundabouts on the way home

Always have to slow right down for each one as the other morning commuters are right up my ass as they rush to work, usually slow down that bit more to annoy them further lol

That rear beam looks a goner

Tuck it appart today and apart from a bent brake disk the hub is a couple of milimetres out so hopefully replacing the hub and bearing will fix the damage. At this point ive got noithing to loose.

Having done similar in a flimsier but lighter car, I concur.

@the OP, the sooner that wheel is facing the right way the better. Though it may be drivable with brakes etc fixed, it'll ruin that tyre in no time.

+2 by the looks of it.

The plan is to get it to the stage where i can drive it to a 4 wheel laser alignment place to get it checked so fingers crossed.

You're not the first, I've exited a roundabout backwards and on the grass before. I did explain to my girlfriend that shouting at me after the event is fine, but shouting as me during the event is less than helpful :D

Yep same happened to me. Wasn't the nicest experience i've had but I was quite lucky.

I have a rear beam with bearings fitted off my old car mate your's for much cheapness if you need it? Hope you get it fixed soon, need to see this back at the Krispy Kreme meet's soon.
