My poor Blackline....

Featured Replies

The scum will steal them even if they don't have a shark fin on the roof

Not every car with a shark fin will nav, they look inside and see a large screen

Using anti theft screws won't stop them breaking in the first place, just makes the removal of the unit harder

Thieving scum.

Was this done during the daytime as you mentioned it was your work car park. Did the alarm not go off.

Yeah, work car park in the afternoon, daylight. Alarm will have gone off, it went off when I stood by the passenger window.

Car was not near the building and probably was not heard.

Got some CCTV of a very likely suspect car, but quality is no good and no reg visible - Renders the CCTV pointless in my mind.

******s. Nothing more to say.

The problem with anti-tamper screws is that all you do is annoy the theif by making their job harder.

Once they realise you've tried 'to be clever' they'll just stab the dashboard and seats with their screwdriver on their way out.

If you are going to make any modifications you'll be as well actually making it easier for them to remove the headunit. Once the glass is smashed the damage is done.

what scumbags, had my superb with columbus for 4 yrs with no thieving issues.

makes me wonder about my columbus now in my VRS!

Hope you get it all sorted.

One of the best films ever!

Insurance excess is £250 for the glass and head unit, I'm guessing a new Amundsen+ would be pretty expensive if bought through Skoda.

Any ideas how much the headunit retails for (not on ebay!) ---  Amunden+   SATNAV etc

Sorry to hear about your car but at least they didn't take the car and it was only the headunit. I had my Amundsen+ replaced under warrenty and it cost £823 and some pennies just for the headunit before fitting :o

HTH

Surprises me......even the most seasoned of thieves would have taken a good few minutes to smash the glass, get into the car through the window (avoiding cutting themselves to ribbons on the glass on the seat on the way in id have thought, pull the trim off which can be an ass to remive in any case, undo all four bolts and pull out the unit without damaging the merchandise, then get back out of the car.

I dont understand how this can happen in what is probably a busy car park all the while the alarm is going off, did no one see it or catch the feckers on CCTV?

Sad thing is these days, people do see it but just ignore it.

Job was done in under 2 minutes looking at the CCTV, presuming the suspect car did it as my car was out of shot of the CCTV.

Alarm on is not that loud really, needs pepping up with some air horns and maybe smoke!

Just be clear here, the "Like" was for the smoke, however I think a flame thrower might be more appropriate :bandit:

Assuming the car was deadlocked...

Once they are sat in they are as good as invisible.

From the footmarks on the car opposite I'd say they never sat in the car, rekon they leaned in and did it.

Will be testing the free Skoda Ensurance tomorrow. :(

Had the same issue in Milan, Italy, about 2 years ago.

Covered by my private insurance, about 3000gbp of damage totally.

Luckily they were very expert and they disconnected the Columbus without cutting any cable.

From what I heard Columbus is much wanted from thief, both for selling on eBay and (to be confirmed) because it contains a chip which allows for credit card copy...

Happened in front of a bar to me!!!

They're very fast.. they were moving with a scooter on the sidewalk..

I suppose glass hammer + automatic/electric unscrewer.

Less than 30 seconds, I guess

I have though about fitting some anti tamper screws to my head unit. We stock them at work they are socket head with a centre pin which prevents the insertion of a standard Allen key. However my concern would be these retards who do this would probably get frustrated and smash the car up or worse **** on the carpet. My preference although its a bitter pill to swallow is let them take it with as little damage as possible and hope that Karma puts some air bubbles in the syringe when they are shooting up or they hit an artery or something.

I used to fit these anti tamper screws when I was on crime prevention.Yes they work but only partially as has been stated it is not a cure, we also used to offer covers so the radio could not be seen, again only a partial cure. The answer is with the manufacturer these units should be made for each car,and made in such a way they cannot be altered to fit anything else, rendering them useless to the scum.

But this of course would make the price go up what doesn't, The only sensible option is a cartridge fitting were it can be removed by the owner leaving a hole for scum to look at.This will take the makers years to implement,as only falling sales will force there hand.

There is little joy in owning a new car today my Blackline never goes anywhere dodgy, my wife's Fiat panda is cannon fodder for that, nobody wants crap, but hey old wrecks are so much more fun to drive, what with all the D....head drivers about and car break ins and damage done in city center car parks. You have my sympathy Wookiee M.

Car is back and all fixed.

Couldnt get a SAT-NAV lock and car thought it was in Germany! Poped the headunit out and the GPS cable was not properly inserted, muppets. All working now.

There is a chance the GPS plug is damaged from looking at it, I'll see how it goes and pop the unit our after a few journeys to check, don't really want to send it back but might have to, think a dab of superglue on the plastic mount for the cable would sort it if it needs it!

But happy days, I'll have about 120BHP more than my last drive out in the Micra!

Glad it's sorted out. Scumbags.

Glad you got it all sorted

Word of warning, the thieves know that you'll be getting this fixed and may well return for a second time to steal its replacement. Seen it happen before, and your new replacement one is worth more than the used one.

Yeah been pondering this. Time for a new parking spot at work under the office window!

If the alarm was going off I wonder if anyone heard it? I bet 99% of people who hear a car alarm just ignore it.

The Police are informing a 'Volkswagen / Audi' action group than can disable the head unit as this type of headunit is on the increase for the VAG group!

The unit will come up as stolen if tried to reactivate.

There are so many of them, and VAG KNOW the original serial numbers so they could disable during a workshop visit via a diagnostic scan and online check.

But they choose not to
