Hey all,

Had many happy miles with my Golf MkIV R32 (over 100K :)). She's getting on a bit now, and frankly with all the suspension mods etc. is too composed. Thinking of getting an Octavia VRS. I can't *quite* let the juice go...

Not really interested in the Diesel.

So - Octavia drivers - are they good motors generally? Looking for a newish one, 2009+ I guess.

I like them and the 2.0 TSFI is a decent motor with plenty of low down torque. As everyone wants the oil burner you should be able to get one for a good price too. Anyway welcome to the site :)

Hi and welcome aboard.

Welcome  :hi:

plenty good high spec cars going cheapish at the minute

Thanks! I'm not sure why anyone would want the derv - unless you're doing silly mileage ofc. I think there's that perception of cheaper motoring, which you don't really see until you hit stratospheric yearly miles.

Are the engines pretty solid? I mean, any reason to not go for a high mileage one if it's been looked after?

There are a few things that I would want, that seem silly and miinor but I would miss: Auto-dimming rear view mirror, rain sensing wipers and heated leather…

Is it worth getting the ones that have been ruded? i.e. suspension, ARBs, ECU retune etc. - any reliability issues on the engine if it has been done (Beyond checking that it wasn't done by Pete down the road instead of say, APS).

Thanks for you patience!

Another quickie - will the Octavia fit 19" rims under their arches? Have a set of BBS LMs that I had to take off the golf as they rubbed the front wings. Due to put them up for sale. The other thing is if they are the same offset yada yada.

One more thing! I'm assuming parts are cheaper than VW parts - or is that not the case anymore?
