but the fitting of Fog Lights for use in Fog are pretty important IMO

and how many people actually use them when it's foggy or with any sort of light

  • 'Cow' would have to be saved for something really serious.... say a strawberry one?   Pretty sure if i had seen a red wrapper leave the bag i would have been calling for backup and a helicopter

  • They've got time for this, yet every 5th car on the road (its not far off) has at least one bulb out...

If they have them, and have the choice to put on and do not, thats one thing.

Maybe they are just ar5es,

UK Highway Code Advices to you if Visibility is below 100 meters.

Manufacturers not fitting them then putting in Brochures and Sales Staff telling you there are Fog Lights is a different matter.

You go to buy a New car, go through the Features

& Safety Features or Standard list, but may not check each item actually is there.

You collect the car, read the Owners Manual then look for the Switch and find there is no switch, and no Fog Lights.

Some People do not read Owners Manuals,

as well as not switching lights on when conditions require. But hey ho

Have you fitted the vRS DRL's to the your Fabia to work in the same way as on a vRS?

Anyone flashing you yet if using them as DRLs.?

Nope, they're wired up exactly the same as the Elegance DRLs, so they go off as soon as the sidelights go on

If Skoda had had any sense that's how they would have wired them

DRL's are a stupid idea IMO.

For decades people have driven without them, so why now are they only just being used?

I never know (unless Audi,BMW,Mercedes) wether they are fogs or DRL's when they are behind me.

My pet hate is people who drive with their fog lights on.

A bit of civility hurts no-one, it boils down to how much of an awkward a-rse you want to be with the policeman

He might come over as officious or rude........does that justify being an equally arrogant a-rse back

I personally wouldn't, but there you go

The point is he wasn't civil about, neither was he correct. "Equally arrogant a-rse I personally wouldn't" suggest you re-read your posts on this thread, because you sure come across as one.

Luckily for me I know the truth of the situation and how it was handled, even the boss woman and teenage daughter were astounded by his rude and aggressive manner.

As a professional of over 20 years in Transport Management I've become proficient in dealing with traffic police, VOSA, and Traffic Commisioners. I certainly don't need behavioural lessons from you, or attitude from a police office who had his mistake politely ( at first ) pointed out to him. The validity of my behaviour was without doubt backed up by the apology from his superior.

Ain't DRL's great.....

In the context of this thread and the irony of it, good versus bad attitude, I only wish you had replaced the word madam with 'cow' or something a bit stronger.

I apologise if you think arguing a point in your eyes makes me arrogant

Maybe it's a shame he didn't find something else to pick you up on :(

You say you pointed out his mistake, when, to quote your post, all you answered was "No", and then "At this point I jump out the car and tel him to show me the switch that turns them off...", so again, hardly 'pointing his mistake out to him'

Keep us posted on the next time you get stopped

If its by me be very careful on what colour sweet you take..................

Lime's my favourite so if it was me I probably would've used a Tazer.

I bet her mother always told her to never take sweets from strangers, those words would've been ringing in her ears.

If its by me be very careful on what colour sweet you take..................

Be assured.......he'll take a red one

And to make matters worse, he'd throw the wrapper out the window

"No" is not my only reply, but hey ho.... He wouldn't find anything else because I take great care to remain legal, sorry to spoil your future enjoyment... Will be sure to keep you posted on any future episodes, hopefully you take the time to read the whole post before each reply then maybe you will be able to quote me correctly

Re-read your post, I've quoted it exactly as you posted

I can't mind read if you've missed out part of the responses

The DRLs are "white" not yellow. When I didn't have them I used to think they were ****y Audi lights, but they actually work. I see people hesitate as I approach, even in full Aussie sunlight, in situations where in small cars without the DRL's other cars just pull out into traffic regardless. Sometimes, people still cut me off after that hesitation, but at least I know I've been seen. For the person who said we went without them for "decades", we did without seat-belts and airbags for decades as well, and I'm sure that in another couple of decades it will be considered strange that people would once drive cars themselves and not let a computer do it.

Anyway, DRL's would have to be a must on silver or grey colours in gloomy old Blighty, surely? :giggle:

As for Mr Plod, yes he sometimes gets told to do things that might be construed as revenue raising - such as hiding speed guns in bushes alongside perfectly flat, straight roads where a little extra speed doesn't matter (because drivers instinctively sense it is safe to go faster). My old man was once pulled over for a breath test at 5am. As he drove away having, naturally, blown 0.0 he heard one cop say to the other something along the lines of, "Only three more and we've done our quota."

Still, I'll give Constable Oz some credit: he has passed me many times while I'm in the Fabia and not batted an eyelid at the DRL's.

Iv no problem with routine breath testing in the early hours. There should be more of this!

I got knocked off a motorbike a few years ago by a hit and run drink driver who simply left me in the middle of the road.

The less people on the roads that are capable of that, the better!

Its a fair assumption to make that the vrs drls are fogs though. Theyre in the same place as fogs have been situated on cars for years. Anyone other than a vrs owner or car enthusiast are likely to make that assumption.

More down to bad design i think

In gloomy old blighty when not a bright and shiny day, switching on the Dipped Beam is easy enough and then you are lit front and rear.

The vRS DRL's are at their worst in gloom and drizzle or rain, and look like some **** has Fog lights on.,

but not the headlights

Just too bright, in Gloom and the Sidelights even when less bright are very bright, and look like DRL's that never went out or Driving lights.

The exact same DRL/Sidelight unit is on some Volvos now, and in the same position as on the vRS,

and there is a Porsche model with them fitted as DRL's, not been able to spot one ever whe on sidelights.

Seems to me to be 100% on the button.  The problem is entirely down to Skoda's design department.

On reflection . . . without my reaching for the brochure . .  does the vRS have separate fog lights (with a switch)?  Is this just a somewhat short-sighted way of doubling up?

ps - I am all in favour of DRLs, I have used side-lights during the day for years, ever since I rode a motorcycle which was regularly unseen by dozy car drivers,  Back in the day, the Police frequently told me to turn my motorcycle sidelight off - on one occasion even telling me to remove a dayglo top I was wearing.  I am.just unenthusiastic about onboard searchlights - day or night.

No Front Fog Lights on a Mk2 Fabia vRS, never has been right from the first cars produced until now.

(3 1/2 years in Production and Skoda Dealership sales people are still known to argue that there are,

so if they have no idea, why would a Police Person that works about 38 hours a week doing Traffic Duty, or maybe

desk duty!! & a few hours out to get some fresh air.)

Rear Fog light, pull out Circular Main Light Switch.

A49 on the way into Wigan last night and I get pulled into the roadside check they had set up. Conversation goes like this:

Do you know why I've pulled you up?

No

You are driving with fog lights on!

No I'm not

Yes you are

No I'm not

I'm telling you you are!

At this point I jump out the car and tel him to show me the switch that turns them off...

He then complains of my attitude and brings over a senior colleague, after he explains to his colleague he folds his arms, steps back with a smug grin whilst the guy checks my car. And then

Sorry Sir, my apologies about that, you can go know. Goodbye Sir.

At this point 'knobhead' is stood open mouthed in disbelief wondering what the **** is going on....

Priceless, love my DLR's... Hate knobhead police who know nowt.

Last thing I saw was the knobhead waving his arms towards the front of my car and talking to his colleague. Was tempted to go past again, but the boss woman intervened

This exact same thing happened to me on Friday night/early hours of Saturday morning, pulled over for having my fog lights on. I politely told him they were DRL's and were always on, but could switch them off if he wanted me too.

He then checked my tyres, which seemed very reasonable as it was cold and pouring down with rain, then we had a bit of banter about my misses living in Essex, and him asking if my mum approved of that (:

Nice guy, I was just probably lucky he didn't have a speed gun! :)
