My first vrs

Featured Replies

It is a Cylinder Filter in the Airbox.   best get used to the car and then Dyno and go from there.

Lots of good info in here all in one excellent Build Project.

(you need to be aware, that before being sold even this car developed engine issues. post #319)

You need to make the choice once you start using none OME and modifying that you may Void your Warranty that came with the car.

  • already smiling and only done 25 miles , getting a few looks because of the "subtle" rallye green

  • Well car is now back home after a slight detour through the Leicestershire countryside , initial impression I'm very impressed by the car , needs better front tyres but I'm guessing the previous owner

  • Have you got full details about its history and if any warranty work has been done?   I don't want to alarm anyone it's just that I've been caught out on the Fabia vRS I've just bought with regard t

I put panel filter as opposed to an induction kit , I'm not planning on doing much to it Cus I want it to be reliable , especially if it develops any issues oil wise

Does anyone know if there is a software update to stop slight misfire at idle? Doesn't happen every time I start and when it's warm it clears

when you start it does the RPM go to 1.100, then within a minute drop to 800 rpm as it should.?

It should have had any Skoda Soft Ware Enhancement at its Service,

the Service Schedule should show it as done, if there is an Update Required.

If it has been run on 95 ron up to now, the Spark Plugs need checked.

Wait till you have run a tank of 99 ron and see what it is like on Cold Starts.

I have had a car with a burnt out plug on the Diagnostic and no Misfire showing.

Last week i checked a Polo GTI with only 17,000 miles but being run  on 95 ron and a plug was burnt out.

Sorry bad picture,

but first item on the Skoda Service Schedule for the vRS,  on the VAS Diagnostic.

  • Author

Yeah it's dropping to 800 as it should , it's a very slight misfire the car doesn't shake or anything

I'll look at the service schedule tomorrow , it is running on about 50/50 of 95 and 98 Ron now, only done 85moles since top up so will keep an eye on it

Checked the oil and it hasn't moved since getting the car , good sign I'm guessing? That's over around 300 or so miles :)

Has anyone fitted a boost gauge to the vrs?,I have a scangauge which goes in the obd socket ,to read the average mpg water temps etc.but wondered what boost it should be running

Has anyone got the part number for the spark plugs that people use , the missing at idle is really getting a bit annoying now

I would not put in another set of those if one is gone at 14,000 miles.

But if for the sake of the Warranty you are sticking with them, buy them at a Skoda or VW Dealership,

not of Ebay or such.  there are Copies around.

Sorry number gone from my head now, its full of mince.

If you are going to be re-mapping.

Another set of which?

Another set of the OEM ones,

i bumped the thread on the Standard Plugs so you could see the ones that are Standard (crap)

  • Author

Yeah I've heard they are pretty shocking,my usual tuner suggested some ngk plugs which apparently have a Subaru part number but also fit these engines,I can't remember the number but from what he said they are they ones revo recommend with there stage 1 map

I use DENSO and the number is in the linked thread in post #108.

You have to choose or Check with Skoda, because if you have issues, they can claim your change of plugs cause the problem.

Even though their Service Interval for the plugs thay fit as standard are often failing before half that,

& buy 40,000 miles. the car would have had 3 services and a Misfire might still not show on the Fault codes/Diagnostics.

So you might be bast first putting in the Plugs Bought from a Skoda/VW parts desk and keep the receipt.

If you decide to void the Warranty and get a Remap then fit the Plugs that suit the remap.

  • Author

I don't to void the warranty as that is why I bought a car that is still within it,I might try another set of oem ones that way I know they have only been run on good fuel and would keep the warranty in tact, thanks for the link by the way,the heat these make is ridiculous :(

Had it on the dyno yesterday and made a healthy 178.9bhp :) and around 175lb ft torque, which I am happy with :)

Might look into getting a better intercooler though,I have a front mount on my lupo tdi ( only one in the country) and the intake temps on that dropped from 60+ when on boost to around 20-25 maximum

Torque seems a bit low. i would expect to get above the minimum official VAG figure of 184 lb/250 Nm. , they usually are.

But much depends on the Dyno, and getting the revs/gears right..

Did you check the Plugs before the run, or was that on the Dyno with a Misfire?

  • Author

It doesn't misfire when warm and nothing in the fault history on it.

Run was done in 4th as to not overspend the dyno, torque seemed low as he didn't want it to kick down so didn't floor the throttle till high in rev range ,I'm happy with the power though,it is books in with them to look at the plugs this Wednesday, car pulls well and doesn't miss at any, point ,it's more of a,lumpy idle than anything else,I think it just needs some more v power through it in case of carbon deposits and poor fuel combustion

So did you not just remove the plugs and check,?

hopefully they are OK, because once they go they go quick.

  • Author

I have not removed them yet no,as I am not currently at home and don't have the tools.

If I'm removing them to check them I might aswell just replace them at the same time

Yes fair enough,

i am just surprised you gave it the Dyno time without taking them out or changing, they are probably fine.

& if you are only feeling when cold all should be fine, 95 ron or not yet on 98 ron in the tank, can feel rough on cold start up.

  • Author

I wouldn't have put it on the dyno if I thought it would damage the car in any way and my usual garage is very careful with stuff like that so we were both watching the dials and measuring blocks on vcds ( vagcom )

As I said there is no misfire across the rev range , just on cold start but I do leave for work at 5am so it is usual around 1-4 degrees Celsius so that's why I noticed it more.

I had done around 500 miles now and apart from low fuel economy ( around 35-38) everything seems fine , since picking it up I have only used v power as she'll is my Local fuel stop

Also the oil has not budged since I picked it up

35-38 seems ok if you have been trying the car out and starting from cold starts, its usually about 15-20 miles at that temperature before the oil is up to the high 80's and fuel consumption drops at around 60 mph plus.

Depends on how long your trip is really from a cold start,

at low ambient temps the engine is pretty efficient.

My journey is around 18 miles each way, don't go above 60-65 in that time as ,most of that around 50mph as it's average speed camera

Intake temp of around 5-8 degrees on scangauge so around 2-5 degrees ambient

I have been having a few harsh accelerations in the car on back roads and that's really when it drops as it's constant speed changes

Will just see how we go for the next few weeks/ tanks

Maybe no ECU update was done then at the Service.

  • Author

I asked them if there was an update and they said they was nothing

  • Author

Is there a way to tell if it's been done? Other than asking them again

  • Author

Well I've only managed 300 miles before the fuel light has come on :( fair enough we did dyno runs on this tank but that still seems low , what does everyone else average per tank ?
