  • Well car is now back home after a slight detour through the Leicestershire countryside , initial impression I'm very impressed by the car , needs better front tyres but I'm guessing the previous owner

  • Have you got full details about its history and if any warranty work has been done?   I don't want to alarm anyone it's just that I've been caught out on the Fabia vRS I've just bought with regard t

I even run 215/40 R17 on the front and 205/40 R 17 on the rear,

but the tyres are physically the same size, different makes though..

Some like 205/40 R17 like Pirelli Zero Nero can be physically bigger than another Brand of 205/40 R 17 or 215/40 R17

Range of 215s seems much better , anyone local to the midlands with a mapped/milltek on it , looking at doing it in the next few months when i have confirmed if there is anything to worry about oil wise

You do not need a huge range though,  there are all the tyres you might want in 205/40 R17,

plenty to choose from, and everything from £50-£250 per tyre, you are only buying one set.

But yes there is a choice of 215's, and you might as well fit them.

I always use mytyres or cam skill for tyres,I've ran many different tyres on my cars and found certain ones expensive in 205 compared to 215 ,might look at those federal rsr though

Gonna fill it up with v power later on the way home, just out of interest do people the paddles much to change or just keep it in auto mode? I quite like using the paddles to change up at around 4500-5000 rather then redlining all the time.

Pretty impressed with it so far though and can't really believe it's a 1400cc car

I change up at about 6k if pressing on, as the power dropps off a little after that ... when I had the TMC box on (my old vRS) I red-lined it all the time, as it held power to 7k .....

I do not use the paddles but use the Gear stick in manual for coming down gears and knock across to D for going up.

The car red lines without worries, but i do not use 'S' for proceeding, only decelerating.

You can be below 6,000 rpm still in 6th and at 100 mph.

Have you looked and studied how the Supercharger works and the Turbo.??

Super to 2,400 rpm then on demand & with Turbo till 3,500 then Turbo.

You might notice the kick that different people mention at 5,000 rpm.

But watch for the kick say at 70 mph in 7D, and below 3,500 rpm,  you go up an incline maybe, and i feels like it drops a gear,

it is still in 7D though.

The Supercharger just came back in as boost was required but the revs stays the same.

More noticable on some cars than on others.

Your torque steer might be most noticeable at around 2,200-2,600 RPM on Super & Turbo.

I can feel the kick at 5k in this engine george, but never the CAVE I had, this engine feels as quick as my CAVE with the TMC on (RR'd at 200bhp)

note: when I said above about the dropping off of power at 6k, that was a RR on a CAVE engine, I really should get this one RR'd!

I get the mini kick at 5k in our CAVE. Looking forward to trying out the CTHE bad-boy!!!

I know exactly how the system works and changeover point etc.no point redlining as most cars peak power / revs is not at redline (bar maybe type r's etc)

Just wondered what point people changed at cus I've found it quite fun to drive just in D and it changing when revs/load changes, would like a go in a mapped one before I consider doing it myself

The 125 kW engine i posted the Study Guide on were Max Power 6,000 rpm,

then it was given with the 132-136kW  @ 6,200 rpm,  but thats not max Torque. that is 2,000-4,500 rpm.

The official VAG figures are on 95 ron, not 98 ron.

The 1.4 TSI  (1390cc ) is almost exactly the same Figures, Torque and BHP as the  2.8 VR6 130kW Golf.

Actually a bit better real world.

Lighter as well.

?? You did spot the is no 90 mph on the speedo.?

the Engine is really not stressed up to about 210 bhp.

& it loves 100 + RON.

Yeah. I noticed it was in 10mph increments up to 80 then 20 mph after that , haven't really been anywhere to really stretch it's legs yet , had some fun doing some country lane driving yesterday too .

Thinking of getting a rear anti roll bar soon, which is the popular choice for them. ? I've got a white line rear arb on my lupo which is pretty good

Is it a Lupo Sport TDi you've got as well? They're great little cars.

Yeah I've had it six years now so fancied a change , still keeping it though Cus it's much better on fuel than the vrs so will use it for getting to work somedays :)

I still want to drive the lupo as much as I can as it was my first nice car,I'll see how the next few months go with having two cars and living back at my parents :(

Just a quick one but where is the obd socket in the vrs , I have a digital gauge for the car but needs to connect to the obd ?

right hand off the wheel, down, pull the long thin panel out of the dash (where the DRL switch and fuses are) thats where the OBD port is...

Checked the oil from cold earlier and was exactly where it should be and don't around 200+ miles now!still getting used to petrol fuel economy :( topped he tank up from around 1/3 full yesterday with shell v power, seems very responsive,do people use the sport mode much? I find it quite jumpy to be honest

Will get some proper pics up soon,it's also going on a dyno tomorrow to see what power it's got and then will look towards exhaust and intake mods soon

Need to find someone relatively local to me with a mapped one though so I can see what to look forward too :)

Love the power delivery though :)

Do you know you probably have only 6 gears in 'S', as designed and as standard,

unless you have one that goes in to '7'  in 'S'. some do.

(You will need Private Road to check see!!!!)

I use 'S', all the time.   But for slowing without braking.

Pull the Stick back to decelerate by 2 or 3 gears,

and then move it forward again to 'D' and carry on. I never use it for gaining speed or overtaking.

Sometimes on the good roads across to Manual to decelerate one gear at a time, when not pulling back to 'S'..

I still let 'D' do the upshifts.

Hopefully standard on 99 ron you will have 185 bhp plus, 190 ish is common.

I really would take the Plugs out and check very closely all 4 before putting on the Dyno.

Even at such a low mileage.

Maybe best get a decent set of Spark Plugs in.

I really haven't been anywhere to really get the most out of it,had around a 100 so far but want to get it on a "private road" to really test it out.

I'll get the garage to check them tomorrow before it goes on the dyno

Used to be a really top road, ruined now by speed cameras and over policing, still a nice way to go from Buxton to Macclesfield or Macclesfield to Buxton on a dry summers day on 2 or 4 wheels :sun:

Ruined indeed. I live right next to it and know the road like the back of my hand. The speed cameras have ruined all the fun though, i even take the shortcuts on the bike, 50mph is just too slow on a bike, cant accelerate out of the corners much, spend most my time looking at the speedo as its too easy to get carried away.

Still Find it a good laugh in the car though. Little htp shows some mercs and audis how to go on across that road, they arent so fast when they cant accelerate away on the straights!

Can't wait to get it on some twisty roads and really push it further,180bhp is the most power I've had in a car so feels pretty damn fast to me ,I've driven c63 amg's and stuff like that in my previous job but this is soo different

Put the dyno off for a few weeks , gonna do it when I have some more spare cash

Is their much benefit on the twincharged with a replacement panel filter? Such as a k and n or similar
