Suspension height

Featured Replies

Morning all,

I've recently bought a Superb after many years in an Octy M2 VRS. Coming from that I find the suspension in the Superb very bouncy and it has more roll than Mr Kipling. I know the VRS suspension was lower than the standard Octy so just wondering if it is possible to lower the suspension in the Superb, if anyone else has done it and if that makes it more of a hard/stable ride?

Cheers

I find my Elegance quite firm on its 18" rims.  By no means the boat that my B5 Passat used to be.  And if it was any lower, I'd no longer be able to tow a caravan.

I find the L&K on 18inch wheels handles brilliantly for a big car. Much less roll than I expected having read loads of reviews before I bought it. Is the suspension tired on yours?

not that I am aware, had the dealer check it all when I bought the car. They checked the suspension, shocks, bushes, etc and said everything was fine. I've driven other cars while I had my VRS and they have always been very roll/bounce. I don't think there is anything wrong I just thing its more than I'm used to. Given the choice I would definitely lower it a tad I think...

greenline has lower suspension.wonder if they handle any better?would like mine a tad lower too.i have often wondered as skoda dont offer lowering springs,if i fitted greenline springs, would my warranty still stand?and would they fit 4x4 version?.......

Greenline versions gets so called sports suspension, which can be ordered for any Superb...except 4x4.

Search the forum for H&R springs, and ARB or anti roll bar. You should find a path toward handling heaven.

G'day, I have fitted an Eibach Pro B12 kit which has lowered spring height and Bilstein dampers. It transformed the ride and handling as well as improved the appearance of the Superb. The lowered ride height triggered the ABS warning light and this was overcome by shortening the shaft length of the ride height sensors front and rear (2 front 2 rear) The mechanic found these details on the Internet. My previous car was a Honda Accord Euro and the original spec suspension with 17 inch alloys was barge like in comparison. Sitting in the rear I found the ride to be twitchy in corners and this suspension upgrade has made me very happy. I have fitted Khumo Ecsta 4x 235x45 x17 tyres and the grip and turn in has improved as well. The front and rear were aligned at the time of the upgrade and 10000 Kim later there is no feathering evident on the tyres.(A major problem of the Euro) All up cost me $1900.AU and was well worth it

I've got H&R springs on my 2014 Superb. I had them fitted before I collected the car so I can't give you any before and after thoughts.

Anyhow I think the car handels very good and the look is so mutch nicer.

Greenline is 15mm lower, think the Octavia vRS is also, would advise not to go lower than 30mm as you would get problems with the suspension.

toyed with getting the h&r springs myself,dx':s looks fantastic.but a bit worried 1. warranty and 2.may not handle that well with standard shockers.does anyone know how much these springs lower car?it looks a lot to me on dxj's....

Ive got a greenline and I came from a Mk 2 fl Vrs. Cant say I've noticed any difference in handling but then again I travel with economy in mind and within road conditions. I will say though that I have ground out on most speed humps in the slough area and I also pulled some of the under tray off when my road had a temporary surface laid. I did see my neighbours 3 series coupe glide straight over it. I wouldn't want it any lower than it is.

H&R is 40mm from stock. 25mm on a Greenline.

Can you buy the Greenline springs separately? I think I would prefer to keep the "standard" Skoda springs instead of going H&R. I've no experience with non-stock parts and/or changing suspension - I've always had the VRS and they have always handled like a dream.

I absolutely understand that a Superb Estate is not a Octavia Hatchback VRS. But something feels just... wrong on the Superb. It still feels like it moves around, especially at speed and hitting a bump/hole/etc. I'm very tempted to test drive another Superb estate to make sure it isn't a problem specific to my particular car.

I have used both Eibach and H&R springs on previous cars.

Same, same but different.

A difference between those Eibach and my H&R that I have on the Superb is that the H&R lower 40mm instead of 30mm.

Do I need to worry about shock damage or anything else if I lower by 30mm? The springs would be the only non stock piece on the car...

I would be more worried about floor damage.

I run a Greenline and if I have more than 2 people in or a heavy load then the speed bumps are a problem.

wow really? that sounds like a fairly serious problem... anyone else?

I'm happy to pay the money and get it lowered for improved handling, but don't really fancy scraping bits of the car off the road.

this is good news to me. I got my car in the winter and can't wait to replace the 16" winter tyres with the 18" rims. Did you lower the car or is it just the stock height?

Hi Moogle, ruffday is quite right.

I'm driving a Superb, which was bought new in July of 2012. Its a Greenline Elegance, 1.6TDI, with a rough road package to stiffen the suspension up, and a full size steel spare wheel.

From day one, there has been too much travel in the suspension over bumps/ramps etc, the ride is far too low, worsened by the long wheel base of the car. Its comfortable to be in of course, we don't drive up mountainsides like, but the ride is very soft by all accounts.

The soundproofing/underbody protection panels on the underside of the car came off twice within 6 months of having owned the car, while going over ramps that never caused me issues before except when laden with 300kgs+ of a load. The car went to France with us the same year it was purchased, and last summer too (no, we're not caravaners, and always travel light enough on luggage and only 2 passengers).

The undercarriage/soundproofing is now somewhere in the middle of France, after having broken away from the car along a motorway. While driving on and off ferries (up and down loading ramps etc), the car never cleared the ramps without serious contact.

Same routes, same hotels, same areas, same ferries, same roads, none of the trouble in the two previous Octavias owned in the 12 years previous to this car (never had such troubles with them except when severely laden!).

On flat roads without ramps, or with only the driver in the car (kind of a big car for just one person though, right?), the car is excellent in many respects, but time and again damage is caused during normal driving practices, because the car is so low to the ground, in proportion to the distance between the wheels/axles.

I couldn't recommend lowering the suspension on this car to anyone that drives in the real world, and I would highly recommend to anyone thinking of purchasing a Superb to steer weel clear of all Greenline models.

A greenline with a rough road package?? - I didn't think that combination was offered by Skoda on the GL models as the suspension is lowered by 10mm in order to assist with better fuel consumption so would adding a  RR package not increase the height back up again?  16" wheels don't help either I suppose with the ground clearance - is increasing the tyre size an option maybe (I know that sort of defeats the purpose of a GL as well).

It was what was offered by the salesman when we asked him about ride height. If it did increase the height, it hasn't increased it sufficiently to negate the damage caused going over ramps etc.

Probably be a better idea to increase rim size back to what it is on the standard non-Greenline models.

The diameter of all the standard sizes (205/55R16, 225/45R17 and 225/40R18) is the same, so that is not going to help you. Going to a larger rim size will only increase road noise and tire costs, and decrease fuel economy and comfort.
