Hi, first i noticed that the fan, headlights and wipers worked while the engine was off and key removed from the ingition, like power was on all time, i just turned the fan off, so it wont discharge by battery and let it be.

Then, suddenly it did not work at all! I changed the fuse nr. 10 which was blown (counting from the left) and everything works.

Now, no blown fuses, but working is random.

Car starts and runs fine (always has), but sometimes it requires several ignition on/off/on/off turns to items in the heading to start working.

Sometimes everything works when ignition is on, but engine off, sometimes it runs even when engine is working, or fan runs at ultra low speed, lights and wipers still does not work.

I turned car alarm off from the station under the hood, to make sure it does not interfere with other electronics- no change.

Any ideas?

but everything points to relay R7 (X-contact relief, 4th from top row, numbered 18 on cover).

unless moisture seeped in relay/fuse panel from windshield frame.

I agree. Check for bad grounds from corrosion or shorts from water infiltrated inside relay panel. Any wet foam?

Hi, im sorry for not filling in the info.

 

Looks like its caused by faulty ignition plate, im getting it switched tomorrow and well see if the problem persists. Currently i can get it to work if i fiddle the key in the ignition, in some positions it gives contact and everything works!

Very interested as mine has just pulled a similar stunt in the pub car park tonight. I will investigate over the weekend and see what I find.

Just out of interest where did you get the new switch from? not having much luck finding one online but happy to be proved wrong.

Nop, i was wrong, mechanic took 2 hours to figure out how to disassemble the ignition compartment, but in in the end it was still that god damn ticking relay. It costed me 40€ for work and 12€ for the spare, but hey, now i know there wont be problems from that end anymore! Looking back, symptoms were 100% pointing at ignition, so it really hard to blame someone.

 

I didnt see the part online, i called a friend and he looked it up in the wholesales catalog. Its not in the isles, so cant help you mate :=)

don't you love it when mechanics think all cars are the same?

what ticking relay?

and it's not clear if you fixed the problem or not.

Problem was fixed allright, i dont know the exact name of the relay, but thats the one which controls the electronics mentioned in the topic. Relay had little melting spots, i guess thats why if failed.

 

Car is first  generation Felicia, 43kw carb. engine.

I am glad I was right on the money with relay R7 (X-contact relief).
