Frozen/Broken door handle

Featured Replies

One cold morning -15 degrees I opened the door, did a long drive, closed the car. And after several minutes I couldn't open driver doors from outside. Door opens from inside without struggle, but pulling the handle from the outside does nothing.

There is one thing, handle feels loose, without tension, not like others. When I pull it, sometimes (very rarely when very cold) handle even doesn't get back to its initial position, and needs to be pushed back.

My question is, is it something got frozen inside the latch/door handle  mechanism (spring etc?) or it could be something broken inside it?

If its just like freezing problem, so I could wait for better weather or apply WD. Or there's something potential that can be broken regarding description? Anyone got such problems?

My friends Superb had a similar problem. Took the car to a heated parking lot and after a while handles started working again. Its too could in Baltics for Czech cars  :giggle:

Try finding an underground car park...There's one where I live, even when it's freezing outside the car sais it's 20 degrees when I start it, it's crazy warm in there because of the heating installations for the building above. I often just go in there for an hour just to thaw all the snow and remove the ice buildup (especially in the wheel arches).

Nah, its more then 2 days with postive temperature. Doesn't help. I believe it's something more than just cold. I think will need to take the door cover to reach the latch and handle mechanism for analysis...

The cable will have snapped, that happened to mine, doors still lock, and it was a small pain but to get in I just let the windows go down, cost 20 pence for a new cable and about half an hour to fit a new one.

Basically the cable looks like a bike break one with a nipple at both ends and is about 2 inches long the nipple came off the old one, the best way to fit it is remove the speaker cover and speaker, then you learn French, as you try to hook both end onto the respective hooks, its easier if you have kids and they can get there arms into the right position

This happened to me when I had my superb it was the cable that had snapped.
