Thieves tried stealing my Felicia - ignition messed up

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I live in Sweden and drive a 97 Felicia 1.3. The other night thieves broke into my car, rippedo off part of the dash and stuck something (screwdriver maybe) into ignition. Car never was stolen but now it starts but cuts off. I've googled the issue but have become confused. Do I only need to switch the ignition? Or is there more involved? I'm hoping to heck those low-lifes don't end up costing me lots of cash because I cannot afford it.

I've read that the immobilser cuts off the fuel pump. How do I correct this so I can drive my car again? Aaargh!

Thanks in advance for any help!

sounds like the immobilizer is killing the ignition. The key needs to be within range of the pickup coil otherwise the car will not start. You are seeing exactly the same problem as the thieves, and why you still have the car.

They have either ripped out the sensor or damaged it.

Mannyo - for sure! I know now why they didn't drive off!

Phil-E. What sensor? I am no mechanic...The car only has 13,500 km on it and a clean, good-running motor and great interior. I'm not ready to

put her in the dump heap just yet but don't have tons of cash to work with. I see an ignition system here costs about $150 swedish kronor. But wonder if

putting it in is something I need an expert to do. What about diagnostics?

Around the end of the ignition barrel there is a round ring sensor.

Check that it is still connected and intact.

OK. Will do in the a.m. as it's dark and snowy now. Thanks bud!

Yep, round plastic sensor on the ignition barrel end, plugs into the immobiliser box behind the instrument cluster.

Here is the wiring diagram to assist you.

Pay special attention to continuity of the transmitter coil (between brown and white wires) and also to shield wire.

What about the alarm of your car? It didn't wake up all neighbors? Can you post some photos to assess other possible damage? Anyways, if you ever plan dumping it, I'll come first :)

I've been super busy so not able to quickly reply.  Thanks for the advice. I have a mechanic friend who is going to take a look at it tomorrow but he is not so good with

electrical issues. I believe the sensor ring is still intact.

At this point, I'd like to get the car rolling as I cannot afford to have it towed and serviced at a dealer just now.

I've read that it's possible to bypass the immobiliser but that the info is not posted online for obvious reasons. Could someone here

pm me or send me an email with directions as to how to do this? The simpler the instructions the better as I'll have to translate them into Swedish.

Thanks - you guys are great. Appreciate all the help you've given!

quite right, we don't discuss matters involving bypassing anti-theft devices on this forum.

Something is "fishy"? I assure you that this did happen and that I am simply looking for a solution. I actually saw the two men walk away from my car just before midnight this Monday. I called the police but they were unable to find them.

I am planning on going out this am to take some photos to upload here for help. I completely understand why bypassing the immobilizer is not discussed here in the open but have read that it's possible to do.

I know its no help to you but it seems over in the UK no one bothers with the little old Felicia. With my previous estate, I couldn't find my car key, so ended up taking the spare one, one early morning. Drove it to work in and parked it up in an inner city area of the Midlands, came back to it after 7 hours, drove it home. It wasn't until I got home and parked it the other way round, that upon getting out and walking past the passenger side that I noticed id left my other car key in the pass side door and nothing inside the car had been touched :whew: Seems even though you give the scum a head start, they arnt interested

Sounds like you had some good luck on your side there Psl! I had no idea that my little gem was anything anyone would want to steal. I was shocked when I saw those

two scoundrels by my car! Wish I'd been up just 5 or 10 minutes earlier so I could have yelled before they did anything. Unfortunately when I noticed them, they had just gotten out of my car and were walking way rather quickly. One guy was carrying a plastic square shopping bag. Probably with their tools inside. I am still so mad!!!! :@

I just came in from taking a couple of pics. Noticed they tried prying off the plastic cover for the dashboard instrument panel but failed to do so. I suppose they were trying to get to the immobiliser maybe? Photos coming soon.

Try Conecting wires back up put key in for s/lock and immobiliser and use screw driver to turn switch

Tried that several times. Engine started but stopped due to it not getting fuel. I'm stuck. I want to be at least able to drive it to dealership for fix as a towing service is costly here. :S

try going direct to fuel pump with a positive  switched live  wire  as your options are getting  less

ive done this on some cars to drain the fuel  / fuel problem starting

i would invest in one of these   and the pager has a good range   iv fitted a few to the cars i have had

I don't have the skill/knowledge to do this anyway so thanks. Not having much luck. sigh. Once I get my little gem back on the road, I will be putting a

steering wheel lock on it which will hopefully discourage any would-be thieves from trying to take it. Thanks for the help and if anyone has any new ideas as to how I can get the car started just to drive it to the dealership, I'd appreciate the tips!

Update- Had another car guy look at my nearly-stolen Felicia with it's messed up ignition.

He wants some directions as to how to remove the ignition system so he can piece it back together.

Any pdfs out there or other directions you guys can share so I can give them to him? I googled around but came up empty handed.

Thanks!
