Richard's mk1 Fabia thread. (Yes, I have a mk1 Fabia problem...)

Featured Replies

If you was doing an 1.8t Fabia wrc, you would be better starting with a petrol Fabia. It would be a headache going from diesel to petrol.

Why so? Just swap the lines and clean out the tank.

The lines need some work anyway depending on the donor. The 1.4 MPI uses a fuel filter with a regulator so there is no fuel return line from the engine, it does have an evap line which can be re-purposed if you are getting rid of the evap though.

You'll be swapping the in tank fuel pump anyway as you'd be wanting one fit for a 1.8T or even an aftermarket one to deliver more fuel depending on your state of tune.

There will be all sort of differences between them and you'll end up stripping the whole car down just to rebuild.

I don't think that will be a problem as this is a "Bossfox" rebuild..................... :D

TBO both petrol & diesel only have different front subframes due to exhaust, then different ECU & binnacle, fuel tank, pumps, lines, & other minor bits in engine bay like mounts.....however with swapping in a 1.8T most will be changed to the 1.8T stuff or "near fit"............ :nerd:

Most of which you'll rip out anyway to put the 1.8T in! The only thing I didn't change on mine was the lines (but only because I didn't keep the lines from the Ibiza, it would have been better if I had) and tank. The only real added difficulty I can see between doing a 1.8T in to a diesel compared to a petrol is dealing with the DVLA.

Some of the petrols have different sub frames due to front mounted exhaust ports (1.2s I think), all the diesels will have the correct subframe for the 1.8T as they have the rear mounted exhaust ports. ECU, pumps etc you need to swap out for 1.8T stuff anyway.

Just because the cars run on the same fuel doesn't mean they share all that much in common, just look at the guys who have put vRS engines in to their 100s and swapped the looms out to suit. Or vRS clocks when doing the gearbox...

Diesels have fuel radiators/heaters under the car, for simplicity, of the fuel rails the 1.4 16v is ideal as it has the fuel return etc.

However it along with the 1.2 does have a front mounted exhaust so the subframe is the wrong shape.

If i were doing it i would start with a 1.4 16V and swap the subframe and running gear from polo/ibiza. I reckon the wiring can be modded at the bulkhead rather than swapping the entire loom over.

I've found my electrician then :)

But if you start with a vRS you don't need to change the hubs :p

Its a lot of work which ever recipient you start with, no point trying to cut out a few hours work. Pick the best/cheapest, which ever suits your goal, shell no matter what engine imho. And if you have a Polo or Ibiza donor, you have every part you need :)

buying a set of vRS hubs and a normal 1.4 16v is cheaper than buying a whole vRS and breaking it for bits ;)

anyway, thats for another thread. come on Richard when are you buying your next FGF?

For a minute here, I thought you'd also bought a Maserati to replace the now gone FG fleet.

So finally this thread might slow down and come to an end.

All the FGFs are up for sale.

Most of them have sold.

I currently don't own any non-FGF Fabias or VRS.

Plenty of parts up for sale including the WRC bodykit.

I blame getting that Fiesta ST last April... :peek:

Even your original cat C that kicked it all off is going?

50p says you'll end up buying it back at some point :)

I'll always sell you mine if you promise to keep it forever!

No Danny he's going to buy the White one back off me soon!

  • 1 month later...

I walked out the office and thought of this thread.

More to the point I thought Richard could develop his green theme...

The Cat C is £150 if you want it.

Dent in a door or two, but still OK for the road.

No, taken a deposit on it.

That's a shame

what about the mythical Y1 FGF? is that still about?
