How does the RARB work

Featured Replies

Im not doubting they do, just wondering how on the Fabia with it having a solid rear beam.

Is it simply reducing flex in the beam or is there more too it than that?

Cheers

I'd think so, the standard beam flexes so behaves as an RARB, the bolt on one will just beef this up increase the stiffness and response/reaction to one end when the other end is flexed.

The standard beam twists when one side is compressed, the RARB acts as a lever transferring some of the load from that loaded wheel and picking up the unloaded wheel so that the back end of the car squats slightly more on the unloaded side reducing body roll as a result, this is why most RARB's have the u-bolts and polybush pivots mounted on the beam so that they act as a hinge for this lever. I'm unclear how the new Unit 18 RARB works since it has no anchored pivots and is effectively just a torsion bar helper adding stiffness to the beam rather than actively compressing the unloaded spring.

Makes sense, i now feel enlightened to the magic thats occurring back there.

Cheers for the replies

The unit 18 bar had solid mounting ends insead of joints. So no rotating parts.

But I would think its putting allot more stress on them 2 bolts on each end

Agreed, mainly I think it looks cheap to make. It can only twist without any pivots so it's a torsion bar beam stiffener rather than a true ARB.

so which raab is the best???

Any RARB is better than no RARB, I like my whiteline on the middle setting, it does the job comfortably, bigger isn't better remember.

Traditionally the Jabbasport rear ARB has been popular and fairly sought after whenever they've come up for sale.

Whiteline. As its adjustable :)

Different uses amd driving styles for diff for diff setupss

Whiteline on the stiffest setting is perfect

Jabba one if you have a little more money

I have a whiteline on middle setting - works for me !

Depends on what you want, when stiffening suspension on some roads (like our **** B roads) you make it worse and more twitchy/susceptible to floating because you are restricting movement and making other things work harder like the shocks.

I thicker ARB will be better and worse in some circumstances, decide what you want.

Personally when i had my fabia i only booted it on good roads, i had my RARB set as medium IIRC.
