Fault: Vehicle Lighting

Featured Replies

Can anyone give me some pointers please regarding this unhelpful error message. Bulb failure lamp & orange triangle are illuminated but all bulbs & lighting systems are working correctly. The orange triangle remains lit and is an annoying distraction especially at night. Is there a way of switching it off, some cars have a warning cancel switch. A scan with VCDS shows no faults. Thanks!

Sorry forgot to say Octavia III 2.0 diesel estate. Have removed & cleaned as many bulbs as possible & the error still persists. Numerous scans with VCDS still shows no fault but clearing all DTCs makes it go away for a few seconds. Discovered that it seems impossible to get at front indicator bulbs without removing headlamps & then removing glass from unit. This error message & the front indicators are two of the worst designs on a car that I have ever seen which is a pity as otherwise I have been very impressed with the car.

Vcds should tell you which light.

Do you have Xenons by chance?

Sure you've checked every light, even ones rarely used/noticed? Ie. Rear number plate lights, fog lights, indicator side repeaters, reversing lights etc

Thanks for the replies. Yes, I have checked all the lights that I can think of, no Xenons. VCDS shows NO errors which is why this is such an annoying error. If the system does not know which bulb it thinks is faulty it should not show a warning lamp. I am all ears as to suggestions of obscure bulbs that I might have missed. I have checked rear number plate lights, fog lights, indicator side repeaters, reversing lights but may have missed something. Are interior bulbs included in the check?

Are you using the latest version of VCDS?

Yes both the latest VCDS & latest beta. If I force an error (such as disconnecting the main beam bulb) everything (for the forced error) works as expected with the correct message & logged fault.

Weeeeeeeeeeeird.

Some others have had similar error messages, but have had xenons.

Not certain on the skodas, but I know on some other makes the lighting fault system works by measuring and comparing the resistance between each side, so for example in the headlight circuit, if you had mismatched or different bulbs in driver and passenger side, they could have slightly different resistances and trigger the fault... some people also have put this down to use of poor quality cheap bulbs, and usually the fix was to replace the pair of bulbs with a matching set from a good brand like philips or osram. Still difficult to narrow this down though if vcds isn't giving you a clue to which circuit it doesn't think it's right

I had an intermittent bulb out warning which was caused by one of the rear lights, it worked but when I took the bulb out the glass was discoloured and you could see where the filament had started to go.

Have you had to change any bulbs recently?

  • Author

No, not changed any bulbs.

Due to a complete lack of available Octavia III information I have armed myself with Golf Mk7 diagrams & will now attempt to check the earth points. With a bit of luck the diagrams will be correct or nearly correct. I shall also watch out for discoloured bulbs. I shall also try a VCDS scan of all addresses rather than just fitted modules incase something has been missed.

As a last resort I may try changing the MFD language to German (if I can work out how to do it) & see if the message is any more helpful!

Check your dlr bulbs and number plate bulbs.

I had an error for a few weeks before it finally blew and became discoloured. Give each removed bulb a good shake as may finally break a dodgy filament.

Ok will try that, thanks.

Shouldn't this be a warranty issue?

Where was a trouble???

Could be a dodgy controller, rather than a bulb?

Just get it to a dealer under warranty and let them worry about it!

I think that this error is very interesting and for next time will be nice know where was a trouble.

Still not solved this fault. I have been on the VCDS forums & followed up a number of suggestions but without sucess. I do not normally take my cars to dealers but with the 1st service due in July I may admit defeat on this occasion & book it in!

Car has now been for its 1st service. Dealer confirmed that all bulbs were ok, contacted Skoda UK & installed software update to BCM. Warning light/message are now out, wait & see if it stays off.

Hello ! Something new? I have the same problem, all the bulbs are ok. I have Xenon. But the orange triangle is not permanently on. I made a test and i don't have errors. So what can i do?  My car is Octavia 3, 2013... Thank you so much!

When i'm connect with VCDS and i choose "Select module" error disappear. If i closed the VCDS, after a few seconds, error appears again..
