Samsung Galaxy S5 due out in April

Featured Replies

The upcoming release of the Samsung Galaxy S5 doesnt seemed to have caused as much of a stir as I remember the S3 or S4 doing... but personally I would rather stay with Samsung than go to Apple. And the S5 seems to be my 1st choice.. either that or the note....

So my question is: whos gonna be upgrading or starting a new contract with the Samsung Galaxy S5 as their new mobile??? And which network will you be on???

I'm not due an upgrade till October. Currently have an S3 so this is number one on my list

Lets hope its better than the S4, which a few of us have at work and we liken them to bricks, coasters or handwarmers.

High 5!

I have the S3 ATM too... Im on a 24month contract.. but that will be up in 3months.. so il be due an upgrade... the S5 is my first choice even though it doesn't really have any ground breaking new features... Im on EE.. they are hiking up prices but il not be switching I feel EE are by far the best network out there... I just hope the upgrade to the S5 wont see my contract jump alot in price..

A mate at work had an S4... he liked it and I thought it looked good...

People complain about how plasticy they are but I kinda like that... but now it seems Samsung have succumbed to pressure to make the exterior more durable and have made the S5 look alot like an iPhone IMO...

The waterproof feature is good and the finger print scanner to unlock the phone etc.. is clever..

S4 was already more durable than any iphone ever produced and the active version etc was waterproof. I was expecting big changes this time. :(

Yeah.. I think everyone was expecting Samsung's to be made of metal rather than plastic.. like the... mobile I cant think of off the top of my head haha...

Yeah I was expecting something big.. but it seems Samsung have gone with simple features that will be used in everyday use rather than specialist features that only certain people will want/ need... aiming it at a much bigger market???

I have an S3 at the moment, If i had to put my hard-earned down on one of the new phones id probably go for the sony xperia Z2.

I recently blagged a spanking new s3 after dropping mine. So I'm in no rush to upgrade.

Doesn't really offer anything I'm after.

I'm thinking of upgrading to a Nokia 3310...............don't want to risk getting it stolen  ;)

I think the lack of a stir is because of the mobile rumour mill promising so much and when it arrives it was all *******s.

Usually all the rumours come from an unidentified insider via evleaks

If I didn't already have an S4 (with about 1 year left on the contract), I would be seriously tempted.

I have learned years ago never to listen to the rumours - they almost never pan out in real life.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 and an iPhone 5S (previously had the S3 paired with the 4S).  To be honest despite the iPhone screen being so small I prefer it hands down over the S3, and so I have no intention of upgrading the S3 for another Samsung Android.  I will probably give a Nokia Windows phone a try (like to have to completely different hand sets).

I want to like the Samsung's but just can't bring myself to.

I think it's their plastic design and cheap looking icons and fonts they use for their UI that put me off.

Another S3 owner (and Samsung fan) here. I also am at the end of my contract and wondering if I should go for the S5 or not. Everyone tells me I should go for the iPhone. Though I know many people with smashed iPhones but so far only one work colleague as broken her S4, and that was because she dropped it out of the car into a puddle and stepped on it. And by broke I mean just the screen.

My S3 gets a lot of abuse, not just from use (on 24 hours a day and charged twice a day sometimes due to use) but also from dropping it. I have to say for a smart phone it's proven very robust. But it is starting to take it's toll on it. It's much slower than it used to be, maybe that is due to the amount of apps and cr*p on it though?

Yeah im tempted.. im just thinking if I start another 24month contract though that il miss the S6 which should be a big step up compared to what the S5 is expected to be...

24month contracts do my head in..

Stay Samsung..

I've got an S4, I don't rate it very highly at all, the battery life is poo, it has no FM radio like the S3 and there's the handwarming side of it as well.

So when the Sony Xperia Z2 comes out I think I'll sell it on to a phone recycler and bag myself a couple of tons for it (if it's worth that) as it's an unlocked, non contract phone, so easy to pass on.

As for the S5 too gimmicky and again has no FM radio which is useful when you're out and about or at the gym, I don't want the rubbish of S Health & SNS poo on it either (I usually disable Feckbook & Tw4tter as they're for plebs), fingerprint lock you can fool quite easily with a certain brand of household stationery.

24month contracts do my head in..

Go sim free. You're paying for the handset any way. You'll get the same minutes etc much cheaper.

My £13/month 30 day sim only with a phone like my Nexus 5 would cost me almost £50/month on 24 months.

If you work on 12 or 18 months between changes, and allowing for trading in/eBay your old phone, you might find it better than contracts

My contract is up at the end of the month :) Im stuck between going for the S5 or Z2 at the min on specs. The choice will be made once i get my hands on them.

I actually used to be on a sim only 30day rolling contract like yourself.. I guess I could try sim only for the year with my S3 so I wouldnthave to shell out more money.. I find yhe S3 a good mobile.. although I wont get 4G with my S3..

So im still undecided which way to go..

I had an S3 good phone nice large screen half decent battery life, only 2 problems with it that really stared to bug me.

1- The samsung apps added that you could not get rid of & would chew up memory despite disabling quite a few that i didnt use, it was the ones i couldnt disable that made other apps become unstable.

2- Only just too large to be comfortable in trouser pocket

So I thought I would wait for S5, checked out at least 6 reviews & came to the conclusion that given there was nothing outstanding coming from it, & it still had all the samsung stuff on top with a bit more ( which you can get from the play store.

I went for a Moto G, only 3 motorola apps put on as standard, the rest was basic Android JB, got KK upgrade & totally personalised with the apps i use & need & my battery life is 2-2.5 days compared to the 1-1.5 on the samsung. For £160 a REAL bargain.

You will regret it.  there is a lot more to a phone than the specs and despite large screens and loads of gimics on Android phones, the iPhone beats them hands down as a device to use and live with.
