Largest size SD card possible for Amundsen system

Featured Replies

Hi, i've just collected my Octavia vRS TDi on Monday and i'm over the moon with it. Just a quick question does anyone know the largest size sd card that can used to store music on? Also when my phone is connected through bluetooth i can play music that is preselected through my phone but i cannot search my music through the amundsen display, is this normal?

I know that the 32gb SDHC is a safe bet

I think 64gb is fine but I've "only" got a 32gb card so don't take my word for it!

As for not browsing the music on your phone it depends on your phone and how it handles Bluetooth protocols, so it could well be normal.

i've got a Columbus with a 128GB SD Card in (2 actually). I'd be suprised if the Amundsen wasnt spec'd for 128GB and Columbus was

I'm in the process of filling up a 64gb card right now for the Amundsen System so I'll update later =)

I'm not sure how it relates to smaller cards, but one Topic on here was talking about problems with different file systems (FAT32, exFAT, NTFS etc). My cards were exFAT but I reformatted them to NTFS when I got them just because I knew it would work fine on my computers and NTFS was working for another Member on here. I've got videos, pictures and music and all work without issue

I've gone for NTFS too. Will update later

64GB works fine within the Bolero. I have approx 40GB music on one.

I did find that it refused to recognise NTFS, so I had to format the card with a 3rd party app which supported FAT32 sizes above 32GB. FAT32 can theoretically support 2TB, but Microsoft limit it to 32GB when formatting within Windows. I guess they wanted to push their own format.

Below is the link I followed for formatting SD cards above 32GB in FAT32. Perfhaps try this if NTFS does not work for you also.

I've gone for 32GB for mine, and will just buy more than one if needed.
A) it's cheaper, and B) it's easier to find the music I want if it's not all on the same card.

Update: the amundsen isn't accepting the 64gb card in ntfs format i'll try Orville's suggestion later

cheers for the replies guys, i've gone for the 32gb to be safe

FYI.  As I said before NTFS failed - the card couldn't be read.  I have a 64gb SDXC card. Before trying to format to FAT32. I had another read of the manual:

"Supported formats:

SD (Secure Digital Memory Cards) - max. size 2 GB;

SDHC (Secure Digital High-Capacity Memory Cards) - max. size 32 GB;

SDXC (Secure Digital Extended Capacity) - guaranteed max. size 128 GB.....

.....The version of the file allocation table (FAT) of the connected device must be in

FAT16, FAT32 or exFAT format"

So after reading this I quickly formatted to exFAT and added a couple of folders. This worked! So I've added the rest of my music and everything works as it should

SETUP:

64GB SDXC Standard Size card.

SD Slot No.1

Total Files: 9,200  (in .mp3 format)

Total Folders: 620

Total Size: 43.9GB

Hope this helps

Just in time for a trip to the Western Isle tomorrow =)

you must have a different version of the manual than me, mine is the same as the one linked on one of the pinned topics on here, from Nov 13.

Below is the Columbus and Amundsen manuals and they both say NTFS is compatable

128gb working fine with amundsen

Don't trust the manual as far as you can throw it.  My version says a lot about admundsen that it doesn't do.

Do far I'm

Unable to play flac

Unable to play video except off an iphone 4 (30pin via ami)

Unable to use NTFS/exFAT formatted devices

Columbus appears to support all the above.

Thats why i thought 'maybe' Danmaca has got an updated manual for his Amundsen which has corrected these errors

  • 2 years later...

Let me share my experience too for those who are looking for more information about sd cards in amundsen+

64 GB SDXC not working in SKODA YETI 1.6 TDI (2014) WITH AMUNDSEN+.

Tried formatting it in EXFAT and FAT32 but both lead to "sd card error" and "faulty card" messages.

I tried a 32gb SDHC (fat32) that worked fine. So my experience agrred with the manual that said the maximum size for SD cards is 32 gb..

Now trying to find a part for adding mdi interface in order to use USB sticks...

I'm using a 256GB SDXC card (formatted to FAT32 using an SD card formatter, not the Windows format program) in the MIB1 Amundsen in my 2015 Octavia with no problems at all - so I can't agree with the 32GB limit specified in the manual.

This is interesting. Are we talking about the amundsen+ head unit? I formatted the 64 gb card to fat 32 with a non - windows program too (easeus partition manager) but the card is not recognized. Is it possible that there are same head uit models with different specifications? Is there maybe an amundsen software update that I haven't done? Very strange...

Bought a 128gb card and it works fine in my 2014 Amundsen, though mine doesn't have the flac codec annoyingly.

I think that MIB Amundsen and Amundsen+ are different models. This must be the reason for the different experiences...

FLAC doesn't play in mine unit too..

This is interesting. Are we talking about the amundsen+ head unit?.

How can I tell the difference? Mine is a 2015 model with a MIB 1 not a MIB2, so may be an Amundsen.

It works fine with the original 0435 firmware and the 0475 update, I'll know in a couple of weeks if it works with 0490 too.
