Removing handle on inside of estate tailgate

Featured Replies

I am shortly taking delivery of an Octy Elegance estate with auto tailgate. I notice there's a pull-down handle on the inside of the tailgate, which with the auto function is basically redundant, and I would like to remove it. Has anybody removed this handle, or for those with an estate, would it be an easy job? (I haven't looked closely enough at the cars in the showroom yet to check the bolt or whatever it is attached to)

I'll double check for you, but I have the auto boot and don't think the handle is even fitted.

Mine has it, it's held in with a Torx screw but I think the whole trim has to come off as it's pushed in from the inside....

It's there in case the automatic tailgate fails or you have no power to operate it and you have to operate it manually, it may not matter if you're 7' tall and can reach it when it's open. Best leave it there just in case

Yes, but the manual says that if the auto function fails the tailgate should be closed slowly and from the middle of the lid, so as not to unevenly stress either strut auto mechanism. Therefore I would assume the handle (which is off set to one side) should actually not be used at all if the auto system breaks?

That's my view too.

I would just leave it there, it's going to be seldom used and the rare occasions when you do have to use it are hardly going to hurt it, especially if its already failed.

How tall are you & the other half (if you're married). Can you reach it easily and you can almost guarantee that it will fail in the worst weather too.

To correct my earlier post, there is indeed a grab handle there. Mine is staying put, but it looks pretty easy to remove.

I did think of removing mine early but decided I couldn't be bothered :)
