Impossible to keep my car looking like new!

Featured Replies

Does anyone else experience this or is it simply a Silver Fabia trait?

Already my 54 reg Fabia appears to have scratches in several places. The boot seems to have soot which I cannot remove & the front of the car looks like a Graveyard for flies even after an extensive clean using bug/tar removers.

On top of all of this the areas around the mudflaps (in particular the front) have like a black line of mud following the mudflap shape which wont come off!

Oh I almost forgot the Octavia alloys which I can't get anymore brake dust off, they seem to constantly look dirty.

I'm at a loss, is it worth spending

my cars w reg and i still manege to get it looking out of the showroom look , clay bars work well for getting rid of the grime and cr*p off the paintwork, try takeing ur flaps off, then cleaning them and re fitting them just need to take your time :)

My Y plate silver furby isn't in tip top condition but I always find it looks clean after a good hard wash.

I've found flies WILL eventually come off using just a cloth and water, but we're talking a serious application of elbow grease (available at all good halfrauds outlets ;)) Devote two minutes or so per fly until it all comes off. I think its the soaking in which does the best job of shifting carcasses, rather than using high strength chemical gunk.

Not sure on the boot soot - I rarely seem to get any soot on the back bumper or boot. and what's there usually comes with water again.

Might want to try tar remover on the alloys but nothing too abrasive. Thing is with them is keeping on top of the dust build up on a regular basis. My 5 spokes are already showing patches of similar stubborn black marks, but they're so minor that when the wheels are washe3d clean they look fine anyway, bar the slight kerbing. :o

if you're anything like me you don't worry about the car not looking in showroom condition. Save the

My interior is filthy, but its getting cleaner. Its gotta be mint for Trax.

To get rid of bugs , soak the car and then drape kitchen roll over the affected areas and leave it for an hour or so.

When you come back they should then just wash off with soapy water

Wheels - Use Wonder Wheels... Nasty stuff, but it bloody works.

For the rest of the car, treat it to some Zymol...

Lehm Clay (clay bar) the car first, then get in there with some HD Clense (Polish) and finish off with a coat of Titanium (Wax).

For the windows, use Autoglym Fast Glass.

For the tyres use Zymol "Tyre".

Then wash weekly (at least) with the "cheap" Zymol car wash from Halfords.

I must say, the paint is unusually thin on my Fabia... I've got a few scratches, but that's only because I haven't been bothered to do the above for a couple of months.

Posted at the same time as you there Josh, and we seem to like the same chemicals

Agreed on the wonder wheels, great stuff, and cheap if you buy it in bulk from Costco.

As for the rest, my car is coming up for a year old now, has 3 stonechips that I'm aware of, 2 very small scratches and no muck or grime that doesn't shift when I wash it - so maybe the Supagard treatment isn't snake oil after all... :D

I feel I have to point out the word HARD for Hellfire. It sounds like hellfire's only showing the powerwash to the car and then putting it away, no suds. (no offence - but thats how I'm taking the post).

I will agree with the huys about all the cleaners, in fact everything - they're exactly what I use on mine.

Wonder wheels? Whatever happened to MC2, or Virosol as Mr Joshua pointed out? :D

Maybe I'm just sceptical, but I doubt a

Virosol / MC2 is all well and good as a degreaser, but for ingrained brake dust, I've found nothing better than Wonder Wheels.

My 2 week old black vrs has scratches and looks a mess already finding it hard to keep it looking nice :(

For the wheels i would say prevention is the best cure!

I clean them throughly and then use Autoglym resin polish to get a good shine, then apply Autoglym alloy wheel seal. If you do this a few times a year the brake dust sits on the wax and just wipes off with water when you clean them.

Mine car is terrible to be honest, most of the panels have scratches and marks. My latest one is from the front wing to the rear quarter  stupid little welsh lanes :(

Mines in need of a wash. Need to fine some time. Think every panel got scratches on it.

  • 2 weeks later...

Someone in anothe rpost mentioned using bicarbonate soda in warm water to clean the wheels. My wheels were absolutley filthy and I gave it a go yesterday. Must admit the stuff is awesome. Still have a few bits of brake dust on them, but thats down to me losing interest on the tougher bits. Works wonders

SWISSOL !!! The best !!! When you wash it it willl clear ALL the muck

I use "tix traffic cleaner", the stuff they use in the carwash. You have to buy it in a big can (40l), and you can only use 100ml / bucket of water. I make the car wet using a big hose. Then I take a big soft brush, and start soaping it. Wait for 5 minutes (preferably not very much longer), and then use a highpressure cleaner to remove the soap, and afterwards I use the hose again, to make sure all soap disappears. This removes all flies sticking in the front, without exception, and makes the car look v

What happened to Mark 'wax wizard' I can't get on the site anymore as it appears to have ceased to be.

I'm still using the kit I got from him and my car looks new if I spend a couple of hours on it (apart from the stone chips and a few scratches that tone down after a bit of wax).
