DAB radio Manual, but no radio in Citigo

Hi all, First post here, so be gentle!

I know there have been some posts about this before, but I wanted to know if anyone has any recent experience with this.

I picked up my new Citigo Elegance greentech 75ps last night, which should have been fully loaded but was missing the audio pack (Grr).

Anyway, as I went through the manuals, I looked in the "Radio Funky operating Instructions" and was delighted to see that it was a DAB radio.  "Great" I thought, as I rushed out to the car, but after 30 minutes or so of button pushing and manual checking, it was clear that the radio in my car isn't the same as the one provided in the manual pack.  However, the Head Unit, which I guess has all the DAB bits in it, appears identical to the one in the manual, except for the DAB option.

I'm a bit hacked off with this - partly because the car was delivered 6 weeks later than promised, and partly because they didn't get the order right, but mainly because I really like DAB radios, and feel cheated!

Anyone else have the same problem?

I'm hoping that they can change the HU with a DAB one when they retrofit the extra speakers I ordered in the first place, but I am not too hopeful.

Hi Dommer - welcome to Briskoda.

I know exactly what you're getting at. It quite clearly states on pacge six of the radio manual:

"The device allows analogue radio reception of FM and AM frequency ranges as

well as DAB digital radio reception.

Six memory slots are available in each of the DA1/DA2, FM1/FM2 and AM1/AM2

ranges."

This would simply appear to be a mistake of some sort.

Its an option on the Mii (£150) and the Up which likely use the same parts / Headunit.

Personally, if there were bits missing on the car on delivery, and no DAB as mentioned in the manual..... I would be refusing the car.

Yes, refusing the car did cross my mind, but I had already waited for it since the start of November!  I can only imagine that I wouldn't get the right specification car until sometime after the summer.  Also they have stopped doing the interest free deal, so I would only end up losing out.

The dealer in Worthing assured me that their aftermarket audio specialist could fit better than standard speakers in the car, plus a free tank of fuel, so that was about as good as I could hope for.  I think I will also push for the DAB radio, or perhaps an aftermarket add on when they fit the speakers.

I don't know what the big deal is about putting DAB radios in cars as standard.  FM will, eventually, die out.  I'd rather forego the CD player and have a DAB radio.

There are currently no plans at all to phase out FM in the UK, it was going to be 2018 but that's was put on the back burner earlier this year and now no date is set.

in car DAB is still very rare, and sales of FM radios are still ahead of DAB today.

The radio manual will be a generic one, and somewhere in the small print will be a disclaimer along the line of "where fitted". I am not even aware you can have DAB in any citigo even as an option. From the Skoda UK website "The radio in the Citigo contains an FM/AM receiver with RDS (Radio Data System), to display specific information about the radio station (where information is available) being listened to"

But you get the manual after you've ordered the car..

It would be different if it was in the brochure. But still, shame on SUK for not allowing us to have it when VW and SEAT do.

I have DAB in my Rapid and use it all the time. Even in deepest, darkest Cornwall reception is pretty good.

  • 4 weeks later...

Has anyone had any success in complaining to Skoda about this? SWMBO just picked up her Citigo Sport today, and the error is still in the brouchure.

I understand it may be generic, but its an English (and therefore UK) brochure for an accessory that is impossible to order!
